65" or 75" UHD TV for Small Games Room?

Hi Folks,

It's definitely a first world problem but I am wondering whether it's better to get a better quality 65" UHD TV or a lesser quality 75" UHD TV for our small games room.

To be honest, I can't believe I am asking this question. We were shocked when we bought our first 32" LCD TV (after having only a small portable) and wondered if we had made mistake since it seemed too big. However, we now have a 55" UHD TV in the lounge room and it is great quality and we are very happy with the size (again, it seemed huge when we first got it but we are really enjoying it now).

The games room TV will be mostly for our boys to play games, watch sport and movies. The room is about 3.5m x 4.5m so not huge but we will mount the TV directly to the wall. We don't want the TV to be the focus of the room, we want to encourage other activities, but don't want to undersize and be disappointed later for the gaming and movie experience. Budget is around $2K, maybe a little more.

Any suggestions, experience, thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers (and Merry Xmas and Happy New Year),
Ashley.

    Games room? 75"!

How is this even a question?

Are a few frothies, won't matter if the 75" is of a lower quality than the 65".

I had that dilemma and settled for a projector for a little over $1200. It is FHD and not UHD though.

Sitting a few meters away will be hard to ascertain 4K from 2K.
I had Dulux Natural White walls hence didn't need a screen. It projects on the wall and the brightness is fantastic Lumens 1200. However I do close the blinds.

I have been enjoying this for a couple of years watching TV, gaming, sports on a 120" screen drinking a few more frothies :-) Btw, the globe is still going strong. A replacement is around $250 if it kacks itself.

It's guaranteed a little one wont damage the LCD panel by accidentally throwing a gaming controller at it and render a $3K UHD TV useless :-)

Also consider a projector if you want real estate.

    Cheers

If you are sitting too close to a large screen , you might not be able to see the whole screen within your vision range.

    • I've heard that is "good" for the cinema experience but "not so good" for sports etc. Viewing distance will probably be 2.5-3m, which I believe is "within limits" for both sizes.

I was once in a friend's house watching a movie on a too-big screen. I kept having to move my head slightly side-to-side , to see what was happening.

        It was very annoying.

        FĂșck you, Chris.

Go the 75" - Hisense or similar.

Once you go large, 65" will seem tiny.

  • I have a game room instead of a theatre, went with 75" and still feel it's not big enough but the room isn't dark enough for a projector. Got a Hisense but when you are sitting far away anyway it looks like any other TV.

  • Dammit we have a 40 inch in the lounge room
