Fishes - Dragon/Arowana Fish - Koi Fish

Where in Sydney can you get these fishes cheap?

Or baby turtles.

Thanks

  • There's hardly any competition among pet shops, doubt if there's one a lot cheaper than the others.

  • Koi Fish

    Not allow in SA :(

  • Most pet shops will have them, but if you want cheap your best bet is to get in touch with the koi clubs/societies eg: http://www.ksakoi.com/home/

They run auctions once every month or two in various locations (eg: near Auburn Botanical Gardens). My dad was a breeder and the last time I helped him out (years ago) at the auction I saw bags of fish (~20) go for $15-$20.

If you're after show quality fish then you'll need to contact individual breeders.

  • Can you even have baby turtles (tortoises) in NSW anymore? Last I heard you couldn't have them at all, or you needed a special licence, or something weird like that??? ;)

    • You need a license to have a pet turtle.

I think it's about $60 a year or something like that

I just don't know where to buy the tortoises from

      • IIRC, what we have all traditionally called turtles in Australia (except for the sea turtles) are all actually tortoises, technically speaking! Something to do with their legs/feet/shell shape and them being land animals that swim; rather than aquatic animals that lay eggs on land!

This is just what I've been told by several pet store owners in the past, so I'm not 100% sure if it's true, but it did sound plausible! ;)
