Looking for Quality Knife Set

I’ve grown up using relatively cheap and crappy knives. Realised don’t have much else to buy this Boxing Day, but can use a new knife set.

Preferrably from brick and motor (or at least aus seller), quality knife set with a block of some sort, and under $200 (though flexible). Basic knives would be enough, butcher knife would be nice and steak knives optional.

What are good quality knives people recommend are good buys?

Won't get a quality set inc block and steak knifes for anything like $200

You need to go in to a real shop and handle some knifes

There are cheap ones I love to use (because they handle well) and expensive ones I hate (because of how they feel)

Once you find a name and style you like, shop online for the same.

An entry level would be something like this..

Personally I would recommend NOT getting a block. I would get 3 individual knives

We have a Wüsthof classic 7-piece. The warranty in Aus by the distributor is fantastic and they even offer free knife sharpening.

We mainly use the chef's knife, honing steel and bread knife so you might only need to get the chef's knife separately, but for the price we got, the cost of the 7-piece wasn't much more than the chef's knife separately.

    • +1 on this. The chefs knife, the bread knife and the scissors get the most workout. A good parer is also good for fruit. Get a nice sharp peeler as well. Maintain them well, don’t put them in the dishwasher and store them in the block.

Got a 7 piece Global Knives set on the Kitchen Warehouse ebay store for $280 when there was an Ebay sale. They are awesome!

  • Peters of Kensington sells nice sets at pretty sharp prices
