Are Healthy Care Vitamins Properly Sealed?

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these and are they properly sealed and suitable for long term storage in the container that it is sold in?

I was at chemist warehouse and someone recommended not to buy this product because it is poorly sealed. I didn't manage to ask the critic about whether the product actually had a seal inside like medicines do. The worst thing to get is rancid fish oil. I think those should be sold in more airtight containers, but I guess it would be too costly, otherwise they should be doing it already.

So, I've been thinking of buying one container of these vitamins, but transferring to another airtight container with dessicant. I don't know if the container itself has a seal on it though, because it if it doesn't have a seal, then it not being airtight and sitting on the shelf means you'll probably get rancid oil unless you eat it a few years before the best before date. (Info from people advising not to buy fish oil that was about to expire, believe it was blackmores or something; there were also comments about frying with it. I can't seem to find it though. Maybe someone here can confirm this post actually existed.)

After a while I found it;

So, TLDR;

How are the Healthy Care Fish Oil tablet containers sealed, and do they have an additional seal inside? If not, why do you think it is not there?

  • Oh, and I would also appreciate it if people mention any other brands of fish oils to stay away from if they are improperly sealed; where one has bought it and knows it is not sealed properly.

    Save us opening another thread to find out which are yay and which are nay.

    • +1

      That doesn't apply to fish oil.

        Breakable caps
        The plastic or metal cap has a portion (such as a ring) that breaks away on opening and remains
        on the neck of the container.
        • The cap cannot be removed without the ring breaking away
        • The cap cannot be reapplied in its original state

        Tear away caps
        The plastic or metal cap has a portion that is torn away in order to allow the remainder of the
        cap to be removed to gain access to the product.
        • The tear away portion must be clearly torn or missing once the package is opened
        • The cap cannot be removed without the tear-away portion being broken
        • The cap therefore cannot be reapplied in its original state

  • I don't know about sealed, but I remember reading a study about most brands of fish oil being sub-standard. A google search should bring it up. I think Blackmores was ok.

  • I don't know if the container is the problem but I have bought this brand of fish oil several times before and it does seem to go rancid much faster than Swiss or Blackmores. I usually just keep an eye on the sales at Chemist Warehouse as Swiss is often on sale for around the same price as Healthy Care.

  • I've bought blackmore fish oil 1000mg for many years and have never had any obvious sealing problems if you wanted to give a look at that brand

  • Why is it not there? $
    It's the homebrand for chemist warehouse that's why

  • Earlier in the year there was a segment in "the checkout" about the use of fish oil. They found fish oil to be a great waste of money according to studies and what Australians actually consume anyway.

    So as a good ozbargainer I would give it a miss.

  • So… Pass?

    I'm am not knowledgeable enough on the topic. I thought others would have tried it, since it is so cheap…

    Looks like the one review from donga100, is to recommend against Healthy Care. I would have thought it would be super popular since it is apparently bought by a lot of chinese people, or at least that is what the news articles state (could be fake news, as a lot of articles are actually ads masquerading as news.)
