  • How much is it normally?

Just drive my car out of the garage before one of our monthly Brisbane thunderstorms -> Clean as a whistle next morning.

Then i drive it back in and wipe it down and take care of any residual water spots with spray wax. Occasional stubborn spots get some extra car wax/polish. Alloy rims and wheels get washed with the soapy rinse water from the washing machine. :P

    • This works well depending on car colour. Silver/White car - you'll probably get away with it.

I personally wouldn't do it due to potential of scratching the car - but your method sounds much more environmentally friendly!

      • yeah have to becareful. there are no big trees and my street is clean no debris flying around. Of course have to watch out for the rare hailstorm in spring.

Scratching will only occur if there's any significant residual sand/grit still stuck on and you wipe it around with a dryish cloth(might happen if you do offroad driving then this method of washing wont work) . I only use microfiber to wipe water off downwards in one direction and then spray the wax on and wipe with another clean microfiber cloth for waxing.

But half yearly I do use my rainwater tank water to do a proper wash with meguairs wash and complete carnabau wax whole car.

  • I start using dishwashing liquid…It works fine.

    • It "supposedly" can be harsh on paint and will certainly clean off any wax remaining on the paint. However if you put on a layer of wax afterwards it shouldn't cause any problems.

    • dishwashing liquid

Salts, bleach and unknown enzymes may not be the best for the paint.

      • Got no idea.
As for me, if my hands can handle the liquid, the paint can do it as well. : )

  • $1.95 per lt for the sca stuff in bulk (no wax) and just as good as Armor all

$3.99 per lt for the bunnings wash and wax

    • Have you used the products suggested? Any comments on them?

      • Yeah they are ok for most cars as long as you wax after i like the SCA one more then the bunnings one. I get the cheap ones because my foam gun runs through it so fast.
