Moto G5 Plus is no brainer. Has same CPU, as well as NFC and Band 28. This is assuming you getting an Australian model. If you are getting some overseas one, harder to say. Also runs Motorola's version of Android which is pretty clean.

    • Thanks. The main reason I was considering Xiaomi is because of its battery 4100mAh against Moto's 3000mAh.

What's your thoughts on this battery comparison?

      • Unless you actually need like 7 hours of SOT to get through a day, its not really necessarily. People make a big deal out of battery life, but don't actually need the juice.

For camera, you can use the ported Google Camera mod on both for pretty good quality pictures.

        • right, other than battery 4100mAh Vs 3000mAh, any other key difference you can see?

      • My 2c regarding the battery in the G5+, I get ~2 days out of it with maybe 4-7 hours of SoT playing simple games, browsing, email, Viber, etc. I'd probably get 3 days if I didn't waste the time playing games :)

Then again, I don't "live" on my phone, it's primarily for communication and I'm not a big communicator.

Firmware is NPN25.137-92 with ElementalX G5 2.02 kernel, EXKM shows that I use ~8.7%/hr when the phone is active and ~1%/hr when it's idle. This is with dual SIMs, Location set to High Accuracy, WiFi/BT always on.

Best phone I've ever had w.r.t. price/features/battery life.

BTW, you said the G5+ is 4GB/64GB, if it is then it's not the APAC, (Asia Pacific), version, it's the USA version in which case it will not have B28 or NFC but it will have a compass.

APAC version is only 3GB/16GB or 4GB/32GB.

Pretty good prices. Mind if I ask where from?

  • Repairs on Xiaomis are really troublesome in my experience. I cracked the LCD on a Redmi Note 3 and a repair shop tried to charge me more than the phone's cost to fix it (also not many shops do repairs on Xiaomis). You should check if the Moto G5 Plus has any warranty that can be used in Australia and how easy it is to get it repaired.

Although at this price it might not be a big deal to you, just buy a new phone if it breaks after a year or two.
