Viagogo... Big scam site!! Avoid!!

Hi all, sadly I thought viagogo was a legit site, until I got scammed myself!

I was going to buy 2x adult ticket for hopman cup final, but they ended up sending me junior tickets for the price of adult tickets!! They claimed they did specify the ticket as kids, but it definitely wasn't obvious, and with the price charged, I never stopped to think it will be junior tickets.

Anyway, only realised it's a big scam site after reading some news online. I was personally scammed $170 for a ticket cost $50 from ticketek!!

Now my only option is hopefully mastercard will be able to reverse the transaction for me. Any idea how I can go about winning my case?

Bloody hope someone can shut them down.. Anonymous hope you're listening too.

It is a legitimate site. They may have some shady tactics in getting you to purchase but the tickets are genuine.

I've bought Viagogo at least five times in the past year.
Bought front row tickets for Paul McCartney at 1/3 face value and Seinfeld third row tickets for $100.
Prices can be above or below face value.

All my tickets have been genuine and any restrictions have been displayed on the page that you purchase the tickets as well as the subsequent pages after.
I just tried to buy some tickets for Hopman Cup and the cheaper few have been clearly marked as Concession Tickets - Child Tickets (from a Desktop Browser)

You won't be able to win your chargeback. Just go and enjoy Federer tomorrow.
They staff who scan your ticket won't check that they're Concession tickets if you just present the barcode for scanning.

    • Really, surely they're not that blind! It actually says junior there on ticket.

THey're all kids' ticket on their site, and they're way cheaper on ticketek.

You'd be surprised with 14,000 people being scanned in they aren't actually checking whether the ticket has Adult or Junior on it.

Scan the barcode from your phone so it's just the barcode being scanned.

        Treat it as lesson learnt.

        Go Federer!

Are you 100% sure about this? or just guessing? Would hate to line up there just to find out I can't get in

They were probably free donated tickets for kids clubs which are now being resold

Viagogo is a scam site wrapped up in legitimacy.

A quick google search finds every state is trying to shut them down.

The victorIan government is planning to pass legistalation which will essentially makes this site illegal. They specifically mentioned viagogo when announcing the legastlaion

They announced the first phase back in April and in December they announced they would be focusing on online sites

You've been an Ozbargain member for 7 years. This site constantly calls out Viagogo for shady practices.

You got done by a ticket scalping website. No way.

With the proliferation of e-tickets (not physical tickets) people sell their tickets to numerous scalping sites. Only the first one to turn up at the venue gets in, the rest get turned away. Keep that in mind too.

You only have yourself to blame for this, especially if they were still available on Ticketek.

Go in one person at a time at different areas/locations, and dress smart.

If you get questioned, state other family members that are already in venue must have your (the adult) ticket.

Have a story like other family members went ahead and you had to get glasses from car or something. Just have car keys on you, no mobile phone/wallet.

    You should get in fine.

Apply a similar strategy if questioned within venue.

    You have nothing to lose.

  • Viagogo is not a scam site. It's a ticket reseller sites. Yes, you will probably pay more than face value for tickets but, don't you know what the official ticketing sites are in Australia?

As it's a reseller site, there are risks that are involved. The ticket may have been cancelled by the promoter (as ticket reselling is against the T&Cs of many agencies), the ticket may have been sold to multiple people (the person uploading the ticket may have actually scammed Viagogo), if purchasing physical tickets the may get lost in the mail.

Viagogo will usually refund your purchase if this occurs, but you will be unable to enter the venue with the ticket and you will be forced to buy another ticket at the venue (if there are any left)

90% of tickets are officially sold through:

    1. www.ticketmaster.com.au (NOT Ticketmaster Reseller)
    2. www.ticketek.com.au

Venues usually use the same ticketing agency for all their events. eg. the Perth Arena (where the Hopman Cup is being played) uses Ticketek. Therefore all all concerts, sporting events etc. sold here will be through Ticketek.

NIB Stadium (Perth Oval) where the Perth Glory, Western Force and stadium concerts use Ticketmaster.

Optus Stadium (new 60,000 stadium) also uses Ticketmaster.

I can't believe you paid $170 for a ticket to the Hopman Cup. Most of the sessions are only half full. Only the Switzerland (Federer) matches have sold out (14,000 people!)

PS. Please ignore any ads you see in Google. LOL.

  • Has anyone actually sold ticktes on viagogo here ?
