Linksys AC5400 Gigabit Router for $325, Good Deal?

I noticed that Harvey Norman are doing 40% off their Linksys Range, they have the Linksys AC5400 Tri Band MU-MIMO Gigabit Router for $325 ($349 USD on Amazon) and Linksys WRT32X AC3200 Gaming Router for $268 ($249 USD on Amazon).

I dont necessarily need a new router but have been looking out for some deals, should i jump on these prices or wait for something cheaper?

Currently have NBN with the standard TPG wireless router plugged into the NBN box.

Cheers

Any reason you want a new router? If your house is large and you need to expand your wifi networks, there are numerous ways of doing so, either spending money on having your house wired with Ethernet jacks, deploying a few Ubiquiti Unifi AP's or using powerline adapters + Wifi repeaters, or using Mesh Routers.

ALso not all Wifi devices are built equal — if you upgrade to a MU-MIMO capable router, make sure your laptops and desktops are also using a MU-MIMO capable NIC. Upgrading everything to support MU-MIMO can be a pretty costly exercise though — HN currently has a MU-MIMO dongle for $34 (usually $55 from Kogan or DSE)

  • Thanks for the reply.

I'm only in a 1 bedroom apartment with plans to move to a house in the next 6-12 months so that's why its not really needed now, but i thought if its a really good price I could grab it now rather than regret it later and overspend on something near retail price when needed.

  • Are you attracted by the prices or the big AC ratings? Read this if you think AC3200 & AC5400 are what you will need. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/03/802-e…

  • I ended up getting the Linksys WRT1200AC for $80 from the recent deal, should be enough to last me a few more years.

    • I have a x6 r8000 netgear nighthawk and yeah it is overkill lol.. Really only need a 1900ac max these days and probably for the next 40 years imho lol.
