Europe Flights for August - When to Buy?

Hoping to get advice on when is the best time to buy tickets for a Europe summer holiday in August?

Would it be safest to buy them at their prices now or wait it out for a sale over the next few months?

Thanks

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. I don't know, but I suspect your best bet is "as soon as possible". Because it's a busy holiday period, I don't think there will be many sales coming up, prices will keep going up, and you may even find that flights get booked out.

I've done the old "wait for a sale" trick to get cheaper international flights a few times in the past.
On 100% of occasions I've always been worse off by waiting - tickets always seem to be the cheapest the further out you buy them, the longer you wait they just go up & up and when/if a sales comes around, they're no more cheaper than when I first started looking.
Moral? Just get them now. Don't wait.

My theory (and no doubt someone will correct me) is that airlines have a few seats priced at different pricepoints. Once the cheapest ones have gone, then the next wad of seats at the next higher price level go on sale, and so on until the seats are gone.

The only way I've really found to get cheaper tix is to fly some low cost airline.

We went to Europe in June 2017 and got our tickets in Nov/Dec 2016. We thought our ticket will decrease or some special deals in early 2017 but never came. Ticket price just keep up going up. So if you're going during peak season, buy it now because it won't drop.

If you delay buying your ticket, it also affect your hotel bookings too. Hotel prices will go up as well if you leave it until too late.

I just got an email from Webjet, they have a Europe sale at the moment. In June 2017 I bought a return ticket to London for flights in August and paid $2600. Usually I book a lot earlier and pay between $1000 and $1500.

    • Thanks for the sale!

  • Thanks for the reply all, and as Marty has mentioned webject have a current Europe sale!

  • Emirates have a current sale for travel ending May. This sale ends in about a week.
Their next sale (January) should include August - according to last year.
Anyway, this is the sale I'm waiting for, for my June/July flights.

Also, have you thought about Singapore-Eur-Singapore (expedia.com.sg) and catch a LCC Aus-Sin-Aus

    • I was able to find Qatar and Emirates on sale on Webjet for August!

      • Yes, thanks - about 10% off. I'm hoping for a deeper Emirates discount.
