8 Port Power Board with USB Ports and Surge Protection and Individual Switches

Mainly looking for a reliable trustworthy brand.

For now mostly small stuff plugged in.. 2 x 40 watt fans a 60 watt lamp and usb charger but might add bigger stuff later like a pc or tv down the line.

Looking for switch maybe as the fans can't turn off and only stay in standby so they eat a few watts plugged in regardless of their on off condition which kinda bugs me I suppose maybe talk me out of it?

Main reason I want to upgrade from my 4 port is so I can add a vacuum or two and keep them plugged in and always ready on standby.. one for the bed and catching bugs in the air and the other for normal floor cleaning duties.

    • Nice but prefer individual switches. Cheers thanks.

  • Why not get two four port ones and plug them into separate power points?

Have to be careful not to overload those multi-plug boards, especially with a computer plugged in.

    • This is my other option but seeing if I can find just one for saving space and less cord hassle.

My small room is slowly starting to look like a jungle heh.

  • I bought a second one of these recently, had the fist one for around 10 years.

    • doesn't have USB ports though but it ticks all the other boxes.
    • Nice it's listed. This looks perfect. Hope the brand is reliable unlike sansai heard bad stories of explosions with that brand.

      • Should be OK, like I said I had the first one for around 10 years but a couple of the switches went funny sp I replaced it with the one in the link a few months back, have had no problems at all. :)

  • I’m using this for some months now, no complaint apart from the size that is quite big, and you’ll probably find it hard to put it in a tidy box

    • This is on the top of my list for now just researching safe brands so my room doesn't blow up while I have my fans plural running some nights.

Atm sansai is crossed out for bad horror stories.

      • I used to have ARISTA boards as well (where the individual switches are located on the side), I found that the USB ports are not good, since it got shorts not long after I bought it, luckily the gadget that I plug to that port didn't get any damage.
Also the individual switches get broken quite easily.

The one that I mentioned above (including the switches) seems to be more sturdy

        • Thanks arista is now on the watch out list. Just trying to pick the safest one honestly atm.

Heard too many horror stories and honestly don't like playing with electricity too much.

        • @AlienC: Like what?

        • @Diji1: switch buttons breaking and exposing electrical contacts which could lead to electrocution, power board exploding and some even catching fire, surge protection not working as intended, the list goes on etc

Read some of the old power board deals to get an idea.

  • Merged from Best Power Board out There (Hear Me out)

I am going to start replacing some very old and some even fraying power boards..

Now some of these are still very good and work fine but I want to safety proof and secure my electronics and myself as well maybe even future proof as much as I can with this next upgrade.

I am hoping to call upon the Ozbargain gods to come forward and report back on their best finds on the most advance power boards known to man.

Hopefully I can find some good candidates that cover all user scenarios and maybe then some.

Here is a shortlist off the top of my head:

    • 8 or more ports
    • usb ports
    • smart Bluetooth or WiFi functionality
    • individual on off switch
    • waterproof? Is this even possible maybe like just spill proof somehow
    • surge protection
    • not too bulky but also not too thin and fragile and brittle
    • can't think of anything else maybe timer or power usage function that would be pretty cool.. like a power usage calculator thingy

Yeah basically looking for a good alternative to some basic power boards.

I need to replace some in the kitchen, some by the router and maybe a new one for my new pc and work station down the road.

Current ones are fine but feel clunky and am always afraid of running them to their end when bad things might happen.

Better safe than sorry I say.

So anyone come across some interesting power boards?

Minimum recommendations I guess would be have individual on off button and no less than 4 ports.

  • This is probably the power board you are looking for .. though i wish it was flat

    • This is the one I think it is perfect. Only thing it is missing is either individual WiFi Bluetooth on off switching for each port and energy power usage monitoring for whole board or each individual port maybe they might add it to the next iteration otherwise I can't see any issues it is miles ahead of the competition it seems and with eBay plus is very price competitive. Safety and joules protection seems to be 1800 if I'm not mistaken which if true is excellent and more than enough I think for my use case scenario.

It was either this or daisy chaining two simple 4 port individual switches or two 6 ports but I think the joule protection rating was like less than 200 or something which is puny and won't do much honestly iirc.

Thanks Most Wanted you made my day.
