Anyone holding off buying Xbox One X until official word on VR?

I'm still rocking an Xbox 360 and a PS3 (plus an old classic Xbox original for the kids) and a some stage I would like to upgrade, probably to an Xbox One X. However I've been holding off as the VR support seems to have no concrete date yet or even official confirmation apart from a couple of throwaway comments from MS reps.

Have tried PS4 VR and it seems pretty cool, but think I want something a little more advanced before taking the plunge.

Anyone else in the same boat with regards to potential Xbox One X purchase?

I game on PC, all I have to worry about is if my hardware supports VR.

I'm waiting for a decent price on the PS4 Pro - hope this helps you, OP!!

  • Seems wierd that MS hasn't announced it given Windows Mixed Reality.

Microsoft may not support VR with the Xbox One X.
It's 2018 and the Scorpio has only just been released.
Whereas Sony is getting ready to release the PS5 in 2019, just before the Tokyo Olympics.

If you want great VR, you're only option is the PC.
If you want passable VR, the PS4 Pro is there.
If you want to try VR, and maybe get turned off from the whole idea, there's Android Daydream/GearVR.

…all in all, don't hold your breath for it

    • Source for PS5 release date? I haven't seen any announcements yet confirming dates, some are thinking 2019, some 2020 but its mostly all speculation at the moment.

      • What on earth would give you the impression that date was anything other than more speculation? Lol

    • If you want passable VR

No one is doing as well as Sony in VR. PC is nowhere near in terms of title sales.

Good sales doesn't mean good execution, PSVR is the affordable option, and with all things affordable it has its drawbacks.
Besides there's only one title that matters in 2018, and that's VRChat.

I too only have a PS3 and Xbox 360. Slowly working my way through all the games I never finished or replaying games I enjoyed over the years. I've managed to come so far now I'm considering skipping this generation entirely and waiting for the PS5 or Xbox ABC (no logic to their naming).

I was keep on the Pro for a while (PlayStation for exclusives) but now the Xbox One X is the best platform for non-exclusives…. mind you without a 4K TV and approaching the end of this generation maybe there's just no point upgrading.

At this stage I'm kinda hoping the next generation of consoles are fully backwards compatible so that I can jump in with the best tech, but still have a chance to play all the awesome games I've missed over the past few years.

  • After the PUBG fiasco I am holding out on Xbox for the meantime.

    • Fiasco?

      • Basically was a letdown on consoles.

PUBG is not optimized properly for PC so of course a console port was going to be borderline unplayable. The effectively 5 year old hardware in consoles can't really shoulder too much of the blame here.

  • PC gives you options.

Xbone has been struggling since before launch. If they released the X without VR support, don't hold your breath.

Likely course of action is that the next Xbox gen might support it, while the XboneX is relegated to the 'cheap console' bin.
