Steam Irons

So its time to replace my current sunbeam iron which has started to leak intermittently which gets annoying

Am looking at irons or garment steamers however the selection is overwhelming

Just after some real world feedback on anything you guys might have purchased recently which work well at getting stubborn creases out of business shirts.

Some of my shirts iron fine, as in, done in 5 minutes no creases left, while others i can spend a good 15 minutes on and still have creases

Cheers

    K-mart garment steamer

  • Buy more 5 minute shirts and give away/donate to charity the 15 minute shirts…

I don't find the kmart garment steamer effective on my business shirts, so YMMV depending on the fabric of the shirt, as you appear to have already experienced.

    Happy with my Philips iron.

    • just updated my entire wardrobe taking advantage of the recent boxing day sales, so giving away my new shirts isnt an option haha

I have a Tefal steam generator iron, big mofo like this https://brain-images-ssl.cdn.dixons.com/0/5/10162650/u_10162…

Takes like 20 seconds to iron a shirt, the maid gets through a weeks worth of laundry of two people (about two loads) in about 10 minutes.

    • been looking at these, the feedback seems to be either people love it and say its the best thing ever, or people saying its the worst thing that doesnt work at all

do shops accept refunds because an item just doesnt work? i dont want to go spend $300 on an iron only to find out its crap and then be stuck with it

      • You don't have to spend $300 for an iron, you can usually get a decent one for under $100. I would also look at places like the Breville scratch and dent places as they also have Phillips irons, including the big steam ones and the garment ones.

        • by scratch and dent you mean brand new factory item however something like the box is damaged so they sell it for less than $rrp ?

did a quick search and found this website which lists a few stores, will give them a call tomorrow!

@DiscoJango: We have a Breville store at the end of Smith St in Fitzroy. Ask the guy you talk to exactly what their stock is. They usually come with a 12 month store warranty. I bought a Breville milk frother that was 1/2 price and I've certainly seen irons at good prices as well.

Very helpful, thank you. I will call them now

        • @DiscoJango: best of luck and happy ironing.
