    VR routers!

    • Yeah man! You can see the internet's floating through the air!

  • I have one and run it on ADSL2 TPG, works flawlessly, and it supports USB stick 4G modems for back-up (optus and Telstra) …. the manual doesn't list all supported USB sticks and TP-Link.

  • Is this a new model or something? Significantly improved features? I got it for $100 delivered from Futu in an eBay sale in in early October, and it was available for that price on at least one other occasion last year.

I see Futu's price has increased too, so maybe there is a reason for that.

    Great little device, anyway.

  • Is this Router support Annex B?

  • FYI: TP-Link is currently investigating the 5G WiFi drop out issue - they are conducting more lab tests.

    • Yep, mine is dropping everyday, a bit annoying has to hard reset it every time. Anyone knows how to solve the WiFi problem?

        From https://www.finder.com.au/fttn-nbn-router-comparison
"We noticed that the unit was dropping Internet connectivity on occasion but enabling SRA within the DSL settings fixed that issue. We’re not sure why TP-Link decided to disable SRA by default."

    • This. Returned my Archer D7 recently for this reason. More info here https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2687495 but I don't know if it applies to this model too.

      • I am returning 2 of archer d7 routers too. Drop about 4-5 times

        • Same here

      • Does anyone know how to open an Archer D7? Mine is out of warranty and appears to be bricked, so nothing to be lost by opening it.

      • I had exactly the same issue. Got fed up with having to restart D7 every 3rd hour or so. Luckily it was in warranty period and TP-Link replaced my faulty D7 with Archer VR600 instead as the D series wasn't in stock then. Comments here kinda scare me.. are we going to face the similar issues on this model too or what? :(

    • Where does it say it supports 5G …. 5G is accessed via a modem and SIM from the ISP.

oops you mean 5Ghz wifi …….

ours works fine, no drop outs, problem can be signal through walls, 2.4 ghz is better through walls, 5 ghz is better line of sight due to more bandwidth.

    • Does it affect TPG ADSL2+ connection? I have been using this router for less than a week now and haven't experienced such issue yet. So I am curious.

Also, if it drops 5Ghz, won't 2.5Ghz still continue to work anyway?

  • Yes. TP Link has 5Ghz issues.
I have an D7 running bridged on NBN. My 5Ghz is on low power. Any other power setting, it will make the router freeze up.

It's due to the 'KRACK' attacks on WIFI networks affecting most router companies.
    https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/16/wifi-vulnerability-krack-attack/

    • I thought it's only me! My D7 has been acting up for a month!

      • Try setting 5GHz on low power see if that stops the freezes. It has been rock steady for more than a week now.

      • There's a big whirlpool thread about D7 issues. I've had my D7 for 3.5 years now and it's been struggling lately too!

    • KRACK is WPA2 based , so also applicable to 2.4ghz ….2.4ghz and 5 ghz can use WPA2, so would be issue on both.

    • It's due to the 'KRACK' attacks on WIFI networks affecting most router companies.

So you mean, there's someone in my neighbourhood trying to (profanity) with my router and gain access to all my passwords n shit?

    • Is it likely to attached ADSL2+ connections too? My D7 acted up a lot before I had to replace it.

  • Not sure how much of a deal this is, picked one up from ebay for $100 just before christmas.

Having some issues when turning off the computer, every time I turn it off or reset it, I need to turn the modem on and off so I can connect to the ethernet, wireless isn't an issue.

  • Stay away from it. Had to be replaced twice.

    • Did you buy it from wireless 1?, how to return it?

      • +1

Yes. Just contact them. It's got 3 year warranty.

    • What was wrong with yours?

      • Wifi Dropping everyday…

    • You mean stay away from D7 or VR600, mate? D7 seems to have a known issue. What about VR600?

  • I'm one of the many that's suffering D7 5GHz drop outs. TP-Link rep posted this on the WP thread

    Hey Guys,

We are working on a firmware fix for our devices, we apologise for those that are affected by the issue that is caused by an unexpected and unannounced changes in coding from a third-party company that is causing our brand and many others to behave unpredictably

We will be honoring any warranty claims by those that are still covered by the 3year warranty period, I will also post in the forum once we have new firmware available for the effected models.

For those that are interested our warranty policy it can be found on our website here.

Please respect that we cannot name other brands or models within our public posts, if you are wanting a possible short-term solution to the issue until the new firmware is released please feel free to email our Australian TP-Link team or private message myself so we can try to help you out.

    Kind regards,

    Joey

Even if they "fix" it with this supposed firmware update, I think I'll still get a refund for my D7 with Wireless 1.

  • $122.40 if you apply the code PRONTO.
