Buying a car with damage in its PPSR report. Help!?

I’m thinking about buying a car second hand and have just checked it’s PPSR report which says the following

2 write-off recorded;
I05DI04DI08C, VIC, 01 Nov 2017, Inspected
I05DI04DI08C, VIC, 04 Jul 2017, Repairable Write-off
Impact (Collision with an object)
Location: Passenger rear
Severity: Light structural
Impact (Collision with an object)
Location: Driver rear
Severity: Light structural
Impact (Collision with an object)
Location: Roof
Severity: Heavy structural

Is this a bad idea? If it has already been repaired and looks fine is that enough? I’m mostly concerned about the heavy structural damage to the roof…

What car is it, how many KMs and how much are you getting it for?

How do you expect people to respond to "is it worth" without knowing the facts?

With the info you've provided - NO, run away

    • 2014 Mazda 6 which has done 60,000kms
I can get it for close to $14k

      • Are you planning on insuring it? It can be quite difficult to find someone who will insure a repairable write-off.

        Run away

Plenty of 2014 Mazda 6's around, it's not a unicorn

        • This. OP, listen to this guy. It's not worth the headaches

What's your life worth to you?
The car is compromised (crumple zones, welds, possible other issues along the track).
Walk away while you have the chance otherwise don't look at PPSR reports if you want to gamble your life on a few k.

I don't know the value of that model of vehicle, but my feeling would be no. I'd not buy anything with structural damage, regardless of the cost, (obviously within reason; it's unlikely you're going to be able to get a vehicle like this with structural issues as such for 2 bob. Either it will be in on a dealer or something or hard to have access to and/or completely buggered). I have to say the mention of 'heavy structural' damage to the roof is pretty alarming IMO; that'd put me well off.

In your position I'd either look for a different model of vehicle or maybe save a bit or look for something a bit older. In short I'd reconsider. That's just my thoughts.

Great. Thanks all πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ will steer clear

    • Let him know that the extensive accident and report means the car won't be insurable and in any event of accident there's a good chance you will be more liable. Tell him that because of those very important factors, the car's actual worth is actually around AU$6,000.

See his reaction, and report back to us : )

  • Bad.

As a mechanic I can tell you that the car would be fine if repaired and passed inspection. The inspection is to confirm that it has been repaired to the makers specifications and therefore is as safe as it was when new. If the damage was serious it would have been a statuatory writeoff. But the car should be cheaper than it would nornally be, as ones with repaired damage recorded always sell cheaper. If the car had of been repaired under insurance, you would never have known about it, and the damage may well have been worse, so from that point of veiw its not a big issue. I would be expecting between 10 to 20% off the value . To check the value, go to redbook.com.au. You should also be aware that you will always get less of a tradein for a car with recorded damage, hence the discount needed. If the seller is trying to sell it at the same price as others with no recorded damage sell for, then dont buy it.

How long do you plan to keep it? If you are going to try to sell it in a couple of ears it will be harder to sell. If you plan to keep it until it dies you might have saved a significant sum on your new car ( assuming it is repaired properly)

    DON'T BUY PLEASE.

Hey my best advice as someone who bought a repairable write off car is to not buy it.

I bought a repairable write of car in 2015 and had to get rid of it last year. It looked flashed and really nice car when I bought it and for really good price. but the problem came after owning for two months. The paint started to crack, there was heavy vibration coming from underneath the car, the radiator had to be replaced within that two months as it was still leaking from previous crash. most importantly for the last few month before I sold it, it picked up two more problems that forced me to get rid of it. The airbags sensors weren't working and the radio and nearly all electronic system died inside the car all cos whoever rewired the car did a very bad job and left the cables exposed to mud, water and dirt, therefore rusted.
