Problem receiving Text Msg on Xiaomi Mi6 Phone

Hi All,

I recently purchased my first Android phone and went for the Xiaomi Mi6 - was delivered between Xmas & New Years!

6gb Ram , 128gb

Great looking phone - love the camera and everything seemed great until when the options for region came up there was no 'Australia' listed - I selected UK and continued setup.

Everything seemed to be going fine however I didn't receive some NYE text messages from family that I would normally receive, next day grabbed my partners phone and sent a 'test' message but nothing has come through.

Checked a post the other day on OZB which I cant find now and someone was saying that they had the same problem and as the region they chose during setup their mobile plan has been billing as if they are OS.

Worried that it has something to do with the +61 that would be selected for the correct region and why messages aren't getting through.

Anyone have any ideas otherwise it's going to be back to an iPhone for me

Cheers

Seems like a regular problem for Xiaomi's. Deal breaker.

They seem so popular on here though….bugger!

    Try the locations singapore, vietnam.

  • I changed to Singapore a couple of days ago but am worried that it still may be happening - will try and get some test messages sent through tomorrow

  • Did you check the msg centre number?

    • Hey hendyb, I didn't know about that and just googled it. Followed the instructions and the number in the field was a completely different number. I've changed it to mine so hopefully that fixes it, thanks for the info :)

Edit : maybe I shouldn't have hastily deleted the number without writing it down - looks like it should be set the the carriers number which in my case is Amaysim

yes, supposed to be the carrier message centre number.
just need to make sure that it's correct, and no incorrect country prefix (unlikely, but better to check)

Everything gets routed through Chinese government first.

They probably just have a backlog to get through with all the xiaomi products purchased recently

    • You do realise iPhones are made in china too

Sarcasm seems to be a lost art today

  • Can you confirm that it is the fault of the phone? Possibly try to remove the simcard and enter it into another phone - see if the problem persists or if that phone receives the backlog of SMS?

  • I've had the same 6GBRAM 128GB model for a few months now, and can confirm never had a messaging issue.

I also had to select UK in the absence of Australia.

I'm on Telstra, messaging was always ok. I strongly suspect it's your messaging service center settings. Hope things work out…

  • Did changing the carrier message centre number fix your issue?

Hey adr8 - yeah it seems to have fixed any issues - really happy as i'm loving the phone and didn't want to have to send it back :)

      • Glad you got it sorted.

  • Thanks for the help guys - working good now and getting regular messages which is great :)

    • WTF someone neggs you for saying thanks and updating the post, have given you + vote to even it out :)
