Looking for the most rewarding rewards card.

We (my partner and I) would like to utilise a Credit Card on a daily basis in order to tally up rewards.
All daily payments will be made using these cards.

I understand there are a variety of programs out there but wondering if there is anything ridiculously good at the moment?
We don't go on many flights but would probably consider doing this more if there was an offer that was too good to pass up.

I already have frequent flyer and velocity card membership if that makes any difference.

Appreciate any recommendations.

Cheers,
Keef

That is terribly outdated. Much better using a comparison website like finder.

as we always pay off the credit card every month..

annual fee was important. try and get a low annual fee card with rewards

citi signature card with annual fee waived for life.
    citi master debit card.

we don't use frequent flyers as we aren't loyal to one carrier or group. we generally buy fares when they go on sale,

we instead use the reward point to redeem prepaid visa cards where you can spend them anywhere as apposed to store cards.

buy our annual flights and hotels on the card and then get a balance transfer after we come back to a 0% interest for 12-18 months and pay that off over the year once the card is paid off we cancel the card and repeat the process

we generally redeem about $850 per year in reward gift cards to which we spend on the Christmas presents and parties for the kids.

Most rewards programs will barely give you back 1% of your spending.

Probably best to just sign up to cards with a decent bonus and then keep churning after claiming the sign-up reward.

Keep an eye on the deals posted here on OzB: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/credit-card

Looks like ANZ might have the best one at the moment: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/345684

Applying for cards regularly just to claim their sign-up bonus may dent your credit rating but this is far outweighed by the benefits IMHO.

Before you decide on the right card, have a think about how you'd plan to use any applicable sign on bonus points. The ANZ first year free deal is certainly appealing, but you can be hit with hefty taxes when you redeem Qantas points to fly internationally on Qantas metal (you can avoid this by redeeming on Cathay Pacific and a few other OneWorld airlines instead). The current 100k offer on the AMEX Velocity Platinum card (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/350794) does require you to pay a $375 annual fee, however could work for you, particularly if you have use for the free domestic flight and if you were to use the points to redeem on Singapore Airlines, which no longer applies airline taxes / surcharges to award bookings.

From a spending perspective, holding an AMEX card will generally also allow you to tally up rewards points more quickly (as the earn rate is often more generous that Visa / Mastercard) - however you'll need to use a 'companion' Visa / Mastercard to use for any expenses you can't pay on AMEX. Personally, I manage to put through around 75% of all my spending on AMEX. This is helped by doing things like linking up my AMEX to my Paypal account, which allows me to use it anywhere PayPal is accepted. Good luck finding a card that works for you.

    • Thanks so much for your detailed response. It sounds like you know your stuff. I think I will follow in your footsteps. :)

      • She's an AmEx Goddess, a lot of us look up to her :)
