Hair type: pretty straight,thick, long black hair
Got a budget of around $150 - $250.
Is it also necessary to get those heat shield spray for the hair?

I wanted to buy a good one for my wife. She wanted a GHD. I went to about 5 different hair salons in the city and asked their opinion. Every single one said Cloud 9 was superior. Bought her a Cloud 9 and she is very happy.
I'll head in store to see if they have a Cloud 9. But seems GHD are everywhere!!

If you can find the Cloud Nine in your price range it is the best, much better than the GHD even. :)

As for me, GHD is better and goes beyond competition. But If you are looking for the best value for the money, you can check Monica's blog. She is the professional hairstyler and her experience and expert knowledge could be very useful to you.
Concerning the question of hairspray, I would definitely go for the thermal protection. Cause, in any case, your hair will be exposed to the high temperature.

though they do give mention to some Dysons which have avg ratings for $600 devices .. pretty horrible imo
I have thick wavy hair that I wear straight all the time. The 2 I would personally recommend are cutek (can be used for travel as is allows for other votages and have variable heat settings) and GHD. If they are similiarly priced I would go GHD but I got the cutek really cheap and was fantastic for the price.
