Is the wifi in this supported with OpenElec?

    • +5

Does it have to be OpenElec ? Only saying that because libreelec seems to have fewer wifi issues than openelec.

  • Does it support Netflix in HD? I hear very few of these TV boxes do.

Also, read a lot of unflattering things about the firmware from 2016. http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv…

Curious if anyone has gotten one of these recently and can say whether it's much better now. Plus my first question.

    • Sounds like a pretty bad box according to that link! A shame, I"m in the market for a good, cheap unit.

      • You and me both. Need something with enough ram to be snappy, support HD Netflix and YouTube and have USB inputs. And that runs Android.

Want to replace my pi/roku combo with one device. Some day.

Hmmm sound like you need a nvidia shield

        • @Dezeption: too bad it's over 200 bucks, otherwise thgey are ideal. More than an xbox one s can be at times

        • Brought many TV/media players, honestly the only one I do not have any buyers remorse over is the Nvidia Shield. The Xiaomi mi has not had a update, keeps needing to repair with it's remote and the network is flaky. Highly overrated box
The other assorted tv/media players have meet the bin or sit in the drawer. The Nvidia Shield is undoubtedly the best by far.

        • @saywhat: The Xiaomi mi has not had a update - ive had 3 since i got the box, the most recent about 3 months ago - but yes the 7.0 update is MIA
Keeps needing to repair with it's remote - this has never happened to mine
The network is flaky - never had any issue with this on AC wifi, stream 4k netflix nearly every night.
Highly overrated box - says you
Sounds like you have a bad setup or bad box.

@Selenium - the xiaomi mi box has everything you need

I have one with the same specs as this and I absolutely love it.
The only negative is if you watch a movie in kodi and press the Android home button a few seconds later kodi will crash and you have to wait a few seconds later before starting kodi again, this is no biggie really cause you can't multitask apps anyway.

The Xiaomi mibox media player supports HD Netflix it costs about $70-$80?

Anyone know how these handle Retroarch/Lakka? Better than a RPi3?

These fun Android and not Android tv, so use is much less intuitive compare to the Xiaomi mibox and it is a touch oriented interface. Netflix doesn't get full hd support it 4k either, and no casting ability among other things. Personally I think the mibox is much better for the extra ~$20 from owning both a mibox and an Android box similar to this.

Should be able to run libreelec on this making it a very nice Kodi box capable of playing 4K HDR videos. I tried it tonight on my Tanix TX5 Pro, which has the same hardware as this one and it worked really well.
