Faulty PS4 - 1 Month out of Warranty. What to Do?

Hi,

So I was playing RS6 on my PS4 when suddenly it shut off abruptly (no external electrical issues such a blackout as all other devices connected to the powerboard were working after) with the game still stuck inside 😂. I assumed the power supply had crapped itself. I tried to fix the issue by using a different powerpoint, letting it rest for 10-15 minutes etc but to avail. Unfortunately this occurred a month after my 1 year warranty period elapsed with JB-Hi-Fi.

Just wondering what are my available options in this situation? Am I legally entitled to a repair/refund/replacement from JB-Hi-Fi or will I have to get it repaired at my expense? As you can tell I am rather naive when it comes to the legal stuff surrounding consumer law and rights so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Cheers

  • When did you buy it and what is the standard warranty?

    • Around December 2016 and 12 months.

I'd say it's still covered then.

  • JB are great with returns/replacements, but since yours is out of warranty you'd probably want to check with them in store (or on the phone).

Would still be covered under ACL.

  • Just quote your acl to them, you should get at least 2 years warranty on a ps4.

Depends on what discount you got on your ps4.

If you got a slim 500 for full wack $400, you'll expect 4-5 years.
But if you got a great deal, say $250, then expect 1-2 YEARS.

Acl is good that way,no grey area.

    • Does the price the buyer issue matter, or is it the RRP? Or neither? Why should a product with a bigger HD or an extra controller last longer?

Overdue update. Contacted Sony and they offered me a refurbished unit as an exchange for the faulty console free of charge. Surprisingly much more helpful than JB Hi-Fi, who wasted my time, from all the stories I've heard regarding Sony. Great outcome.

I'd be happy with that, not an 'ZOMG NEW' one but fair! Glad to see you got a good outcome
