Out of curiosity, why do people take this rather than eating a balanced diet. If you need, eat more fibre - flaxseed/linseed, wheat germ, whole grains, veg, etc.
Flaxseed won’t do much if you’re taking antibiotics
I give probiotics to my kids because there are many studies showing it is beneficial for a range of things, but specifically to prevent development of allergic response disorders which runs in my family. However from my understanding there is only strong evidence for some strains, such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacteria.
You have no idea if your diet is "balanced", whatever the (profanity) that means. Presumably it has something to do with the carbohydrate rich recipe for obesity that the government recommends whilst pretending "exercise" will fix everything while nobody exercises.
Also eating fibre is pointless.
Fibre is pointless to you and me but very appreciated by the good bacteria in your gut.
By balanced I mean wholefoods, mostly plant based - most studies show supplements are a waste of money and if taken in excess could be harmful. We live in a society too concerned with trying to treat the symptom, rather than the cause.
These are probiotics to improve your gut flora. For most people if you have not had antibiotics then you 'probably' don't need them. Fibre has different roles in the gut than probiotics, some people can't tolerate certain things as well. I had to become a bit of an expert a few years back when after multiple rounds of antibiotics and a round of prednisone my guts were totally stuffed which had major effects on my body as whole. Pretty much back to normal now but took a few years of research and adaptation to get there. (IANAD)
FWIW, tried a heap of different probiotics along the way but found the the one that had the best effect (for me)was Vivomix. Not cheap but only needed 1/2 a sachet twice a week so it lasted a long time.
