Ryobi just as expensive as DeWalt?

I know Ozito is the cheapest power tools brand at Bunnings, but everyone says both Ozito and Ryobi are the cheap offerings for DIY users whereas Makita, AEG, DeWalt are for trades level use.

However, looking at the Ryobi and DeWalt cordless drill kits on offer this month it's pretty much neck to neck.

DeWalt brushless hammer kit $299: https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-4-0ah-brushless-hamme…
Ryobi brushless hammer kit $299: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-5-0ah-brushless-ha…

What gives?

  • I don't think Dewalt is trade quality (at least not anymore - I believe it got sold some years ago).

    • Black and Decker bought it in 1960.

The ryobi kit offer 2ah more than the dewalt.

YMMV, some people use Ryobi for trade and others use Hilti. Don’t think there’s any hard and fast rules for brands anymore these days.

Mate uses Ryobi as a chippie and he’s happy with em. Another bloke I know uses Dewalt and he’s not impressed but he sticks with them because he’s invested in the battery ecosystem. So, who knows.

I’d just buy whatever you need/think either does the job or looks the business and is within your budget.

    • Fair enough, I may be overestimating DeWalt then.

  • I'd go with the one with the lowest cost Lithium battery packs so you can have spares cheaper.

    • I agree because ordinary Ryobi is not very good.

  • Ryobi are expensive. I think they get away with it because people choose them for having the widest variety of attachments.
