Gas Prices Melbourne

Given the power price thread, i'm also interested in who people uses for gas. I find gas harder to compare, not sure why. So interested in who u guys are with. I'm with Lumo, but just got a email stating price rises come end of Jan. So im looking to switch.

    Red Energy.

    • Red Energy lures you with good rates, but then increases it exactly at the date when they legally can (in few months after sign-up).
And they do that again, I had 2 increases in the less than an year.

After that increases as an existing customer you pay 20-30% more than new customers and more than you pay with many of their competitors.

So I would stay away from them, dodgy way of doing business IMO.

    Heinz Baked Beans

    • how many cans for a MJ?

      • it depends on the supplier.

  • Gas is much easier to compare than electricity.

You need to know how much you use in a year then just plug that into a comparison site then look at the offers that come back. Once you know your annual usage it becomes much easier to compare.

    • so why is it easier to compare to electricty?

i find it hard to compare because it seems when i plug in my suburb i come back with 2 distributors, and prices vary a lot. and my current bill doesnt tell me who is my distributor.

Electricity has so many different rates depending on when you want to use the electricity. You can pay more in the day to get cheaper rates at night or you can choose to pay more in the late afternoon so you can pay less the rest of the day or you could pay less on the weekend or you can pay the same rate all day. Very very confusing.

Gas is the same price no matter when you use it. Yes there's winter and summer rates but the difference isn't significant so just look at the winter rate and it'll be close enough.

Your distributor will be one of these. http://www.esc.vic.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/esc/92/92c9ed06…

SP Ausnet, Envestra or Multinet. It should be on your bill and if not give them (your current supplier) a call or an email.

        • Yea true, i get ya.

          thanks for that link too
