Is This a Bargain? Optus Unlimited Broadband with Line Rental $60

The other day I received a cold call from Optus offering me unlimited adsl2 with free line rental for $60 per month. Included is the option to upgrade to NBN for free when it becomes available

Currently with Telstra paying $72 per month for adsl and line rental with unlimited local calls. 200gb

Don’t download movies so don’t need the extra data for now
Also claim it on tax so the difference in savings is lower

Switch to Optus vote yes or stay with Telstra vote no ?

nbn "upgrade" is free anyway. Do NOT lock in to a long term contract. Do NOT get coercedninto any "limited time" offers.

Neither are worth paying "a bit extra" for.

    • what about the tpg $99.95 setup fee

does the 18months contract worth the $100 setup fee exempt ?

  • Your poll doesn't make sense.

      Agreed.
Not sure if the Yes/No options are for

      Is This a Bargain?

      Or

Is Telstra worth paying a bit extra for or should I switch to Optus ?

Which is directly above the poll options but is an A or B question, eg:
Waiter: “Would you like fries or salad sir?”
      Me: “Yes”

Maybe change the poll options to:
Yes, this is a bargain, go Optus / No, this isn’t, stay with Telstra
      Or
Yes, Telstra is worth paying more for, go Telstra / No, Telstra isn’t worth the extra, go Optus

this is the 'standard' pricing they have been pumping in ads etc for MONTHS now…. No special deal at all.

Wow that's a great plan!! Stay on this one! NBN 'upgrade' might not be as good as you think it is…

Optus ADSL syncs at a slower speed than Telstra for same line conditions. Different noise margin.

    Their network is also slower.

Whirlpool is littered with threads showing how bad Optus internet is by comparison.

Do not change. You will regret it.

  • Thanks everyone

    Will stay with Telstra

  • Personally we couldnt live with 200gb, but i would read the fine print to see if it is truely unlimited or "fair use" which means throttling if you exceed a certain connect time or gb count.

  • Well, it really depends. I'm currently on this plan. Forget about NBN, so If you have to have a better speed, the speed goes from (up to) 12 with adsl to (up to)30m with cable. For Optus you don't have to pay extra for the line rental. For suburbs 30m $60/month, not too bad. However, if the NBN comes really close, then don't do this deal.
