EMDR Therapy - Has Anyone Experienced This Therapy?

I am a registered family therapist currently completing my masters degree in psychology and I've recently completed training and am now able to practise Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Throughout the training I've seen amazing results and I believe it is a great option for people with PTSD, addictions, trauma etc. I'm wondering if anyone on here has tried EMDR? What are your thoughts? Was it more effective than CBT or talk therapy? Thanks

Haven't tried myself, but I've had a friend report back that they're finding the process very valuable.

    • Thanks for that, it's so funny because people that have tried it or know someone that has consistently report positive feedback. The skeptics and negative responses I've had are from people they have never tried it…

Yes, I know a friend who's done it who's found it amazing in dealing with past trauma. Resolving the root cause of issues they've had for years. They'd talk to their therapist about intense anxiety they feel about some situation like a baby crying, do an EMDR session, and it'd come out it's related to some childhood trauma that seemed completely unrelated. As that was situation was resolved in their mind the anxiety went away. Was very effecive

    • Yeah that's common from what I've heard too. A few friends that are psychologists have started using it and now use nothing else such is their amazement in the results. Glad your friend was able to get those issues resolved.
