Thoughts on the ASUS UX330UA 8th gen?

Portability (weight) is a priority, so whilst I know there are better value options out there, this is a lighter laptop that I need.

Mainly used for work, light programs. I've heard there are some minor coil whine issues on this laptop, anyone have anything to say about that?

Anyone got anything to say about this laptop?

Specs seem alright for the price

I have an older Zenbook (4th gen i5) and find it really lacks quality; had a couple of keys fail on it and battery doesn't last anywhere near what they claim - I was lucky to get 4hrs of web browsing when it was new vs the 11hrs they advertised, hope they've upped their game since then

    I am running a UX330U at present with the Skylake i5 6200u.
Prior to this unit I had a Broadwell generation unit.

I rate these units, the display is excellent and the eyecare setting to reduce blue light is a feature that should be standard in LED displays.
I am a fan of the compact Zenbook/Ultrabook style form factor, the alloy covers, backlight keyboard and autobrigness adjusment.
The build qulaity and keypads are not up there with a Macbook.

    • How long is the battery life are you getting and what programs are you running? ~on average

Battery life was reasonbly good for a windows machine intially.
I would like to say around 7 hours of straight web browsing, youtube, social media etc.
12 months in that battery life is around half.

Was a similar story with the Broadwell gen unit I previously had as well.
If you need more battery life, you could research if you can use a 19V power bank.

I got the older UX305, Skylake i5 6200U. It should be quite similar to the newer UX330 with an updated processor. Everything about it is ok, battery life i get about 8 hours on moderate use. But one issue I have is that Chrome doesnt work well with my laptop. When Chrome is open, it lags the entire system and battery life is shortened significantly. Because of that I only use MS Edge browser and thing are fine with 8 hours.

There is no coil whine in my unit and I have never read anywhere that an owner has experienced coil whine with the 3XX series.

I have been using it for 1 year and the battery life is still at 92% capacity with 60-ish discharge cycles.

    • only 60 discharge cycles in 1 year? no wonder your battery is at 92%.

      • I only use the laptop when I need to work outside. But also because of the battery life, I dont have to charge often. I can use the laptop 2 or 3 times before charging.

        • See that's the thing, i use my laptop a lot, charged at least once a day. Hence my battery deteriorates faster. Luckily i got lenovo to replace my battery within warranty :')
