  • Can a switch be plugged into these? Anyone able to verify how good they work?

    • +2

I have a lower speed model with a 4 port switch attached, works very well

  • Will these hook up with the AV500s? Have them downstairs and need one upstairs now.

    • It will work at av500's speed.

      • Ok thank you, was just gunna buy another pair of AV500s but got me thinking.

      • I have aome 500s too. Will the two 1000s talk at 1000? And the 500s be lower, or will they all be at 500?

        • +2

Everything will be talking at 500 even between the two 1000s.

  • +3

I've had mine since the beginning of last year, work well. My only complaint is they are "HUGE". They will obscure the second outlet on a double outlet.

    • Ah. It's hard to tell from looking at the pictures. TP-link makes bricks for powerlines. You can easily be misled by the size.

      • The smaller ones I have had are more prone to overheating and reduced performance.

  • Why is this deal listed as starting tomorrow?

    • +2

The eBay code isnt up until tomorrow

  • Do you have to plug it directly onto a wall? Was thinking of plugging one onto a UPS/powerboard but it has proven problematic in the past with huge latency.

    • +1

I'm not even sure if it would work through a UPS (data wise) I'M guessing not. Certainly powerboards with surge protection always reduce the speed significantly. I just use a short extension cord with mine (so I can hide the giant box), without any speed loss.

      • Do you have the speed synced at or close to 1Gbps ?

        • +2

Even directly to wall and in same circuit breaker, av1000 actual throughput is still far less than 1gps, would be around 100-150mbps.
If you are looking at high performance eg streaming 4K at 60fps, than better to get av2000 which also provides you two ports at each end
av1000 is good enough for most day to day use

        • I haven't run any Ethernet to Ethernet speed tests, I just use the plugs to connect my media server to my wifi. Happily transfers files to my phone at about 120mbps.

Will be fine for most uhd video sources. Netflix 4k is about 50mbps and even a uhd 4k bluray has a maximum bit rate of 108mbps.

[@wangcong918][@ash2000]: thanks for the info guys, it's just as I thought, knew that I would get about 20 - 30% of the advertised speed :)

        • @wangcong918:

          Any suggestions on a Av2000?

  • +1

Cant wait? Grab https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252946197014 (which has 15% off) then use code PICK5 at checkout for further 5% off, resulting in $84.79 delivered.

  • Just be aware that you are sharing a network over power cables, so if you are in an apartment building etc just something to think about.

    • Nothing really need to worry.
They use 128bit AES encryption and you should press the button on the plug to generate new keys when installing.

      • Yes but if someone is on the same power network, there is a possibility that they could use a similar device to access your network.

        Examples I easily found: https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/9725/are-powerl…

Encryption means nothing when the random/attacker is on your network.

        • Powerline is just similar to Wifi. Your network is NOT private, but all packages are encrypted so your network is still secured.
You're only partially correct. Attacker can sniff the packages using similar device, but without the key they cannot decrypt the packages.
If encryption means nothing, internet is nothing.

        • @nbn: When you press the connect button, it shares it's key over the powerline just FYI.

        • @OnlinePred: If you are really worried, you can plug them on the same surge powerboard when setting up, or do it somewhere else away from your apartment.

        • @nbn: If's I was really worried, I wouldn't use them ;-)

  • I recommend the AV2000 modele to avoid slow downs when streaming. It works great and the price difference is worth it.

    • I doubt many people here will have speeds over 1Gbps…

  • Agonised over this all night, as the cashback/bonus really makes the price appealing and I'm currently running a cable as my wifi reciever for my PC died (and ive previously had powerline adapters that died), but…

I can't justify buying something big and bulky in current environment, so think ill have to see if I can suss out a workable wifi reciever for PC (or get a deal on the AV2000 which seems more compact and higher function)

  • I bet AV1000 is enough for most people. Just bought this unit, it works perfect.
