USB-C + Budget CPU + 4000mAh

My Nexus 6P has been nothing but trouble lately with the slow downs and shutting down at up to 40% battery. I'm sick of buying flag ship.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 ticks all the boxes except for battery capacity. I never want to worry about getting through a full day of usage. Sadly all the phones with large capacity are either flagship ($700+) or not USB-C such as the Red Mi 5 Plus 4. I've already fully commited to the USB-C world and am not going backwards.

Is their any devices out there that:

  • Cost less than $250 AUD
  • Have a mid range CPU (625)
  • Have USB-C
  • Have a high capacity battery (3800mAh)
  • preferably dual sim
  • 6 inches or less

  • you do realise that the Nexus 6P is made by Huawei right? Which so happens is a China brand, so shouldn't expect much quality… Secondly 6P was released towards the end of 2015. If you bought it back then, the battery will be around 2 years+ old by now which is usually the "expiry" date of lithium ion batteries even if they are left on the shelf unused. Any phone running a lithium ion with frequent use after 2 years will start to show some loss of charge and doesnt matter if it starts out with a high capacity battery. If you change the battery in your Nexus 6P there is a high chance that it will solve your shutting down problems.

Sometimes apps can cause the problem as well, or even a custom ROM. Have you tried doing a clean install on your nexus 6P using stock rom only? You will need to go into the recovery mode to do a complete factory wipe. Instructions link below.

The Xiaomi A1 is a no brainer budget phone at the moment if you are wanting something new and running stock android but will have to be imported and not covered by warranty.

    • From day one it never survived a full day, stock rom or otherwise. And its a very quality built device, I'm not sure what your issue is? It's a part of the nexus line so it has certain minimum standards it adheres to. I've tried mutliple stock and custom roms from 6.0 to 8.1 and am still plagued by performance and battery issues.

Anyway you've spent majority of your answer telling me what I already know which is I need a new phone, so thanks for clarifying.

Xiaomi A1 has a 'small' battery capacity (3000 mAh) which in reviews has been said only just manages a day. I'm sure my usage pattern wouldn't last a day.

sounds like you are one of the power user and will need one of those xiaomi power bank thingies lol :D If you have the LTE on and doing stuff like gaming(which from your description of cooking egg sounds like it), even 4000mah battery is not going to last a day.

good luck with your phone hunt. You could try the ZTE Axon 7 on sale at OW now. Gold version $355 still available. The Oreo support seems to be upcoming and should be quite stable release from both lineageOS and stock.Plus the local warranty.

        • I've got a 20kmAh anker powerbank, but its not always with me and i like the comfort in knowing I can get through a day without worrying.

I think the Mi Max 2 is suited to me, even if its a bit on the large side.

  • I have a 6P that had the same battery issues so got the battery replaced and it made a huge improvement in performance.

I'm still planning to get a new new phone as I have had the 6P over 2 years now, but it gives me time to wait for a really good deal to come along.

    • I was quoted 120 for battery replacement which is half way to a new phone of equivalent power (now mid range). Overheating is a major problem for me - on hot sydney trains the phone just stops responding and you could cook an egg on it.

  • Take a look at Vernee X

  • 6 inch or less. Can't help with that ;)

That's an awesome tool, thanks a lot. I think I've narrowed it down to Xiaomi Mi Max 2 even though it is a bit big.
