Microsoft Office 2013 (Non-Subscription)

Hi,

Where's the best/cheapest place to buy MS Office 2013? (Word/PowerPoint/Excel) With about 2-4 licenses?

I don't want office 365, as I don't want to continually pay for access. I just want the previous version so I can install on 1-2 computers.

I can provide student credentials if need be.

Thanks.

How about free Office 365?. Might as well check to see if your student email meets eligibility.

This is the only other discount scheme I know of, The Microsoft Home Use Program.

You could also venture to the Reddit Microsoft Software Swap page, but can't guarantee the authenticity of the codes provided.

    • Thanks for the Reddit link.

      • Hey bud, turn on Private Messages :)

        • Done. I never knew that was a thing.

  • As a student you should be able to get it the latest office for free.

Yes, free while you're a student. I want to keep using it for years to come. There's a reason that Microsoft/Adobe are moving towards software as a service models - it's more lucrative for them. I want to pay for a product - not a recurring service.

    • I don't know if you have acted on your strategy yet.

I had the same strategy. I own Office 2013 Windows, and Office 2011 Mac. I bought them to own long term but got them cheap. I wanted to remain legal and compatible.

However the strategy doesn't really work. Office 2011 Mac will stop working over the next few Mac Updates as it is a 32 bit software and Mac OS will not support 32 bit software any further. It stopped getting software updates last year. Office 2013 is still good as far as I can see, however will presumably fail in a similar fashion over the next few years.

I advise to use whatever strategy is cheapest for you, and vary your strategy. I am 50 years old, I haven't paid full price for MS Software in years, I have had access to various HUP cheap versions of Office in jobs, various free offers with machines. As my life and work changes, getting cheap versions of Office has always been an option. Currently I have just changed to free Office 365 through a deal.

Don't burn cash up front like this. Use the cheapest strategy avaialble to you. Use your $0 free Office 365 access. After you finish student life you may get a job with Microsoft HUP company to get dirt cheap office. You may keep access to your student ID. Who knows, but flexibility over time is best.

Open Office or Libre Office. Open source compatible versions that cost nothing.

For what 99% of people do on computers, these two are an excellent option as opposed to using M$ products…

    • I hear what your saying, but I need to ensure that office files are 100% compatible at all times. I'm willing to pay for this.

    • does open office work well with endnote?

  • If you have friends or family at large corporate or govt departments, they can buy office pro for home use. Only $15 or so
