YouTube Removing Monetization from Channels Unless 1000 Subscribers and 4000 Hrs Watched

Just got this email this morning. We have worked hard and have got about 60 videos posted and waiting to be posted. What youtube wants is a impossible ask for start ups. Pissed off.
Are any other Creators affected..

Its over before it has even started. Unfair as the kids have worked hard. 50 plus videos up.. wasted. 4000 hrs is a impossible target for current growth,

Today we are announcing changes to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). While our goal remains to keep the YPP open to as many channels as possible, we recognize we need more safeguards in place to protect creator revenue across the YouTube ecosystem.

What's Changing
Under the new eligibility requirements announced today, your YouTube channel, is no longer eligible for monetization because it doesn’t meet the new threshold of 4,000 hours of watchtime within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers. As a result, your channel will lose access to all monetization tools and features associated with the YouTube Partner Program on February 20, 2018 unless you surpass this threshold in the next 30 days. Accordingly, this email serves as 30 days notice that your YouTube Partner Program terms are terminated.
One of YouTube’s core values is to provide anyone the opportunity to earn money from a thriving channel. Creators who haven’t yet reached this new threshold can continue to benefit from our Creator Academy, our Help Center, and all the resources on the Creator Site to grow their channels. Once your channel reaches the new threshold, it will be reviewed to make sure it adheres to our policies and guidelines, and if so, monetization will be re-enabled.

  • yeah. they've pulled my partnership too.

YouTube are scum, they rig their algorithms to effectively censor any channels they politically disagree with. Not surprising they are trying to scrape more money out of the content creator's wallets also.

Don't you want to watch Jimmy Kimmel or rewatch 5 videos that you watched only 20 days before?

  • +1

Can you email/contact your subscribers and ask them to watch a ton of videos for the next month, and/or get friends and relatives to start subscribing?

    • +1

      No.

That is why the larger channels are now running their own websites, Patreon, providing early access to content, in exchange for your email address.
All so they can contact you outside YouTubes temperamental algorithms

    What is your channel?

  • Well I guess that means my $60 will be permanently stuck in their system, since you have to get $100 to withdraw.

    • Yeah I'm in the same boat, I have $72 on my account and that increases $5 every month. Thanks YouTube!

Well, looking at your channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz4ts1qGy3QPSjxBbSSFiSA/vid…

Maybe you can change some stuff to get more subs

    1. your name needs improving. It is clickbait, yet you are using your kids in most of the videos. It comes across that you are making them do the videos, rather than them wanting to do the videos. Look to change to your kid's names and make it more personal.

    2. Stop with the clickbait, win something videos. Do reviews, do kids stuff, but don't do clickbait giveaways. AKA. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/344649

    3. Your channel is only 4 months old. Unless you are unique or offer expert advice, it will take years to grow your subscribers.

    4. Don't become the next D05 channel. Please.

    5. Don't send viewers to unfinished websites. https://buyeverything.com.au/ and www.ReviewAndGiveawayChannel.com

    • Thanks for feedback bud.
As this isnt my normal Biz model of start and i dont earn in x time, move on. This is more about the boys development, and generally 8 yr plan (If they maintain interest which they have.

Rest is noted, There is a master plan of the websites, Just not complete yet as I havent sent to my team yet as not allocating budget yet. Its just not ready.

      Whats a D05 channel

The click bait is promised so Have to see current through. Once I reach a certail amount, Budget was meant to increase. (Mavic Pro, Pandora 5 arcade all in one). I have to see it through for a year or so.

  • Time to purchase subscribers! Just like Insta G.

154 subs, but the last video that had 154+ views was 14 videos ago… Goes to show you got subs for the bitcoin stuff, then went on a totally different tangent for your videos.

  • Youtube think they are too big to fail, but history has shown that is never the case.

      google own youtube. :(

I'm not sure it matters either way. You wouldn't be making very much if you didn't have at least that. 4000 hours is just a 5 minute video watched 50,000 times

Though for people in other countries for whom a few dollars extra a day makes a big difference it might be a bit of a slap

Will suck for a lot of tutorial videos. A lot of those videos are one hit wonders that have millions of views, but the rest of the channel is irrelevant or has no subs. I mean why would you sub to a whole channel for a single video you only needed once?
So they're going to take away earnings from people who have helped a lot, because they don't retain a thousand subs.

  • (profanity) *## shshs &@#^# youtube. Shitty ass clickbaits get richer (not you op). Youtube isnt profitable nayways unless you get sponsors.

As must as I love to read the mega experts bag the crapper out of my channel. I am aware that regular and quality content is king. And as my boys are 5 mths in, I do have long term plan to earn and the actual Monetization value isnt a big deal, HOWEVER as it is a direct metric of value then it keeps a light at the end of the tunnel.

I will add to my SEO team in the near future but for now my focus was about content, even though a recient trip overseas changed direction for a bit as new original content presented (Currently being picked up by other blogs). so got away from the main focus area

As far as click bait goes. I have no interest in physically buying subscribers as is against terms (And no value), However as a google and FB click cost over $1 each, then why not just reward a guaranteed subscriber a $1.22 Bitcoin coin. It lets me know actual count of people that can actually read and follow simple instructions (and so many cant). Ozbargainers actually do FYI.

As far as 3rd party site buyeverything.com.au goes. I have no interest in the retail side, But if as dropshipping is 1 min processing my side, then why not. and can just go to the boys future funds.

I care about future youtube income (boys hopefully active for next 8 to 10 years, Future product sponsorship, and my boys actual skills in front of a camera without any rehearsal at all (value to public speaking).

And since it has been brought up.
10 products wiill be given away at end of this month including. 1 x google home, 1 x Chromecast, 7 x fidget spinners (Yeah who cares), 1 x Powerbank QC 3,0.
and at 155 subscribers, That is a 1 in 15.5 chance of getting one. Not bad click bait… Ill put a video up on this next week.

Ill keep making some video, but we are not Pro (Yet)
    Currently
Canon 6D full frame (Wish I bough touch screen auto focus, 6D isnt a clean refocus)
Rode Self powered Mic (Wish I bought a auto on and off, always forgetting to turn on or off)
Fotopro tripod (Just bought) Old one broke
Mavic Pro (1st one went swimming in the sea) Just bought
Acer Predator g9 793 (video processing) Awesome. Best purchase. Makes about
    Surface Pro 4
Zhiyum Smoothg Q (Just bought not used) (Going to use this as a tester before I get the 3200g model for the Dslr)
Note 8 (Bought today) to test the Zhiyum Smoothg Q and encourage the kids do some of their own private vlogs
    All bought from ozbargain promos.
    Filmora
youtube buddy (Stared few days ago)
Background music (Started week ago) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNVgP2wjqcqJrMwOc3hOT8A

Either way, thats $12,000 plus invested on gear, so it would be nice to get some google acknowledgement for (profanity) trying to do it right.

And FYI, Im a big bitcoin guy, so it really isnt about money, just development of the boys.

Feel free to tear me one..

    • +1

So you don't care about money or you do?

You mentioned many things: for the boys' experience, wanting returns for your investments, acknowledgement for your efforts, and weirdly bitcoin is mentioned there too.

Good thing you don't care about the retail side. The xiaomi yeelight is 30 on your site, but 23 on gearbest.

I suppose you hope that people can't read and follow instructions so they buy stuff from there eh. Maybe don't put this up on Ozb then.

If you say you care about the future youtube income, then don't worry about what you've originally posted. Just keep doing what you want, then in a few years, hand it over to the boys. The 'light' at the end of the tunnel is growing views and subscribers.

bud. I'm not trying to compete with Chinese sellers in China. likely the manufacturers. and I am definitely not trying to get bargain hunters on OzBargain to buy the products either. I am trying to get subscribers and watch time only as well as the development of the boys.

geez I'm just saying Google are (profanity) for what they done and we have done a lot of effort to date to get kicked in the teeth. that's all.

now your boys will learn about investing so much capital in something without properly weighing up the risks. Great life lesson

  • +1

    Just on a different note:

how will your boys feel about this stuff when they are 16 and this becomes extremely embarrassing? The internet does not forget and once put up there, it is very, very hard, if not impossible to remove.
They are human beings for which you are responsible right now but it appears to me that you are driven and determined to make them Youtube stars, possibly at their expense. It just seems that this is a case of the parent living a dream through the child. Remember, that for every Youtube star there are millions who failed - you will only read news about the success story but not the failure stories.

I certainly would not put my kids into such position - when they are old enough to decide for themselves AND grasp the consequences of such actions (so this means at least adolescence), then that is fine.
As is the case with Steam, there is too much content on Youtube that simply does not belong there, and I am grateful for a bit of structure, standards, and clarity on such sites. Keep in mind we are just talking about the monetisation here - niche videos can still be uploaded and viewed by a niche target group - you just do not get money for it but have to do it as a hobby. If this is truly about being an experience for the kids, don't mar it with plans, SEO etc. Just let them do the videos as they want it (that is important, no instruction from you whatsoever) and simply have fun.

P.S.: This item you are selling on your site: https://buyeverything.com.au/collections/frontpage/products/…

I hope you or the manufacturer (which I assume is in China) has a license to sell these shirts. If it is from China, at this price, I am pretty sure this is unlicensed. As a professional working in IP (among other things) I can only advise to take this down asap as it will become very expensive once caught.

  • It is frustrating. For channels as well that want to enter the preferred partner program, there has been a huge delay. It was promised back in March they'd be through the backlog of applications, and then again in April, and in May. Yet they still aren't done. I'm waiting patiently in order to get a) monetisation and b) links back to my website. Will be interested to see how well it monetises.
