Any Chance of Optus Matching The Data of The Virgin $30 5GB Plan?

Basically just looking to switch due to the inclusion of Optus Sports. However, Virgin is offering a way better deal of $24 for 5GB (20% off of $30). I am happy to pay the full $30 (or $27 with student discount) however 3GB of data is on the low end. Has anyone had any experience negotiating with Optus to price-match or improve plan offerings, mainly data?

N.B: I am asking because I talked to a sales rep and she advised that Optus does not price match competitions offers.

there was a deal giving you 17GB for $30 from Optus, not sure whether it's still running though!

That being said, why switch for Optus when you can get 20GB for $32 from Virgin and data rollover as well?

    • Optus Sport for World Cup being one of the main reasons. Also the 17GB deal is not running anymore, confirmed via sales rep.

  • I don't think so given Virgin are a sub-brand of Optus

  • In response to your question I know that there is a chance.

A work colleague of mine did exactly that using the online chat, but he got it when they had the deal last October/November for 25% off and is paying about $18 for 5GB of data from the started 3GB deal (as well as having the benefits of unlimited Spotify, Google Play Music, Netflix and Stan etc. and the Optus Sports package). They played hardball with him to have him sign up two phones for the deal but he stuck to his guns and ended up getting it. Then to rub it in he signed his wife up to the same deal a couple of weeks later (where they again tried to get him to sign up another 2 numbers).

It's also unfortunately that you've just missed the Christmas deals which finished on the 3rd Jan. I got the 12 month sim only plan for $30 which includes 15GB of data with the Optus Sports and the unlimited Spotify.
