James Boag's Premium Lager Pricing

Why has James Boag's Premium Lager price increased?

It was $59.99 on Dan Murphy's last week for a carton. It is now $57.95.

I remember buying them for around $45? Don't get me wrong these are great lagers at $45 but close to $60 is just close to buying craft beers at $70 a case.

  • still 46.95 in VIC

    Ever tried Fraser Briggs?

    • have not tried them before but it certainly has the looks of a boag's premium

      • Grab a sixer and see how you go.

  • Wouldn't be paying $60 for a carton. I've just had Dan Murphy come up at $54 for me (which is still a bit pricey). Beers just seem to go through cycles of which ones are on discount. Personally I've found I can always get something I want for around the $45 - $48 mark.

Mind you, this is still a far cry from when I used to be able to get a carton of New for $20 on special. Good times!

    • BWS has it for 2 for $96 which is considerably closer to what I am willing to pay for

      • That's a fair price, so long as you're happy to take two.

  • Boag's is my go to… Normal price at Thirsty Camel is $54.98, but they'll drop down to $50ish on special, sometimes $45.
The home-brew equivalent from Brewcraft is not a bad approximation if you have the time and inclination (also their Southwark Premium approximation is pretty good too).

  • All of that beer has gone up - Becks used to be 36 a carton for the fully imported, now its 50-60. It's not even worth buying that stuff anymore, might as well spend an extra 5-10 bucks and get some decent craft beer.

    • +1

is it also cause of the NSW scheme of Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), Return and Earn?

  • Of course the problem is the ever increasing tax applied. A carton of full strength beer (24 x 375mL @ 5%) has $16.83 worth of tax in the price from what I can make out.

    • i thought drinking was an Australian culture. y try to kill it?

  • You pay 18c more per bottle since December 1 =$4.32 extra per carton, for the recycling scheme.

I like Amatos in Leichhardt or Mr Liquor outlets as they sell parallel import beers.
Boags is a lion nathan/tooheys product which are often expensive for what they are, because of marketing and local production costs.

    • mmmm interesting… waddya recommend?

  • DAB, Peroni Red, Paulaner, hoegaarden, blue moon, modelo especial
