Visiting Baltimore (MD, USA) for The First Time

G'day,

I'll be visiting Baltimore in March for three months for work purposes. This will be my first time in Baltimore (and the USA) so I was wondering if any fine ozbargainers can offer some tips/advice on which neighbourhoods are good (i.e., safest, convenient for travel to inner city, etc..) and what cultural differences I can expect.

Any other general advice or sight-seeing recommendations are welcomed.

Cheers

All I know is that crime is very high in Baltimore.

    Baltimore

In today's news they're having all sorts of trouble…Police Commissioner

Based on that article I would minimise the amount of time you travel from home to work, ensure top security on your residence and maybe get a gun and license for added peace of mind.

They said they're going on a 3 month work stint, not joining the Tea Party Movement.

    • Thanks for the reply - hopefully I won't need any weapons for protection. I think I'll stick to the southern parts of Baltimore, where crime and poverty seems to be, on average, less prevalent.

    • absolutely, concealed carry at a minimum. try and buy some light body armour (probably just a vest will be fine) if possible.
oh and if you need to go outside then don't wear any red, blue, green, purple, yellow, orange, black or white (or any combination of them) all gang affiliated, best to just go naked.

  • All I know of Baltimore is what I saw on the Wire… and apparently it's pretty accurate. Good luck.

    • Thanks. I should get around to watching the Wire.

  • Take the train to Washington DC while you're there and get a photo with me mate Trump. Just mention my name to Capitol Police at the front gate.
