No Reception inside House?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has issues getting mobile signal indoors? I'm nowhere near rural areas. Around <20km from Sydney CBD.

Currently ordered the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 N9500 however I wont be able to flash it Australian (Optus) firmware to use wifi-calling.

Any ideas in getting signal indoors, preferably free or most cost effective method.

  • Who are you with right now? How many signal bars do you get outside?
Lodge a complain to your mobile service provider, break the contract and change to a new one.

    • Currently with Optus, tried a Tesltra prepaid card however even Telstra didnt have any signal bars within the house. I get 4G connection outside of the house.

      • change to 3g only

        or try vodafone 3g

  • If the house has a tin roof or sarking that can reduce signal strength.

    • Apartment complex :(

  • Band 28?

A quick search says you can still download the Optus App to get wifi calling.

    • Apparently wont work with devices newer than the Galaxy S6 :( (For Samsung)

I haven't read through the entire forum, but that would seem strange. If anything, I would've thought that it wouldn't work with devices older than an S6.

The requirements just state that you must have an Android phone running version 4.0 or above.

Guess you could give it a try and if it doesn't work, then just uninstall.

  • You already know about VoWiFi, i.e., Voice over Wifi. You might also be able to use call forwarding to send calls to a landline if you need to receive calls while home? Not ideal tho.

I tried everything including changing telcos and still had major issues,

Ended up buying a LEGAL booster which works. The eBay yum cha boosters are illegal with hefty fines from ACMA when caught using them.

It ain't free but it's effective.

  • I had the same thing and switched to Telstra
