DIY Attaching Rod Holders to Bicycle

I recently undertook a minor DYI project & attached rod holders to my bicycle. My Rods are not detachable and are one-piece. It was relatively easy & I thought I would share it here.

Also, I found it difficult plus expensive to purchase this from retailers. The best I found was ATV rod holders from america at the price of $22 US however the shipping ruined the deal and increased the price to $90 odd dollars AUD (not including bike rack). I managed to make them for a third of that amount.

Materials Required:

Bike Rack (Pannier)
Boat Rod Holders X 2 $20 includes shipping
Exhaust Clamps $10. (could use hose clamps instead)
Cable ties $2

Step 1. Install bike rack. Make sure that bike rack has supports at 90 degrees or as close as possible.
Step 2. Purchase correct size rod holders (tight as possible to rod)
Step 3. Install rod holders to bike rack support using exhaust clamp or hose clamps
Step 4. Cable tie the exposed rod to the bike rack poles for added support

  • Good on you

  • Now all you need is to make a youtube video, enable adds and collect revenue so you can hopefully one day buy a $80,000 bmw.

    • for the record I do own a vehicle… not a high yielding investment one though

  • Why buy rod holders when PVC pipe does the same job?
