How Much Would You Rent/Loan Your Car Space for?

Hello! Just wanting to see what the general community thinks about loaning your allocated car park in your complex. I am after a car spot and someone is offering theirs for $40 a week ( I'm located in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast where most streets are 2P only). Personally I think this is a reasonable price (~$6 a day) where there is no street availability but better half thinks it should be closer to $20. Just wanted to see what others were roughly paying. I understand that prices can vary considerably with other cities ( I imagine sydney and melbourne can charge $200 a week in the CBD).

Thanks

What's the 2P parking? ie, is it paid, or just a 2hr limit?

Just curious - can you apply for a parking permit? It's quite simple to do. If it's paid parking, it will say on the signs that permit parking is excluded.

If it's just a 2hr parking limit, a parking permit will allow you to park in that area.

    • 2 hour parking max, don't need to pay (yet).
I might have a read and see if I can get a permit! Thanks!

      • You almost certainly should be - if you own/signed lease. They're easy to get; I got one for inner Brisbane. You can nominate two streets, as well as your own.

Edit to add that they're only like $10 for a year.

How much is the rent of a 1 bedder in the area, probably around 15% of that would be a good starting price

Free market - whatever you can rent it for.
Maybe start with $40 and reduce until someone bites.

  • Wow.. $200pw in Sydney/Melb. , that's like renting a room.

    What about brisbane CBD ?

    • I have a friend in Brisbane who rents their carpark for $120 a week.

  • $50/week = $10/weekday compared to the car park down the street which is $15/day (melb cbd)

  • spring hill brisbane $140 per week

It all depends on what area you are in. I would say something like 5 times 60% of whatever a full day's parking rate in the area is, would get bites.

$40 is reasonabletake it before someone else does.

what are you doing for parking at the moment?

    • I agree!

    • $40 would be about right. Any less and some landlords don't even bother with leasing out. Usually the admin cost and loss of remote/card can be troublesome. But the ozbargainer in me would be to ask for a discount if you prepay 3 months or longer etc.

  • I work in the melb cbd. A guy in my team pays $200/month for a secure parking space with remote
