Coolant Box cracked on Mazda 3

Fairly aged car and the coolant box blew up. I've been quoted by my mechanic to get them fixed.

Mechanic quoted me $165 which includes flushing out the thermostat with existing thermostat and new coolant box inclusive ($69).

Just checking if its a fair price? Also what is a suitable coolant for Mazda 3 since FL22 is now obsolete.

Location Melbourne, 9 year old Mazda.

Sounds like a fair price, any red long life coolant from supercheap should be ok. Isn't the mechanic going to refill it themselves and include it in the price?

    So all up $205?
without the price of the coolant box and coolant, the labour charge is about $96.
    Sounds about right.

    • Thank you Cartman.. :)

    • Got it fixed and realized the thermostat was stuck - only opening when it is over 100'C when it should open at 82'c. This is why the plastic coolant box blew, the pressure had to go somewhere! Because mazda products come with a mount, it cost an additional $120. Toyota's are just $40 I was told.

In any case, good learning info.

Any time you can get a repair done on your car for close to $200 it's not a bad deal.
