Virgin Velocity Redemption Singapore Air - Seat Allocation

I am quite disappointed. I redeemed a Business class flight 9 months ahead for Singapore to Sydney, and cannot do my own seat selection.
As I was booking, the system said that I could only select seats at check in.
But on completion of booking there was an automatic seat selection done.
I went to 'manage booking' to change it but 'seat selection is not available'.
Pretty disappointing considering it is 'Business Class'.
It seems that I can do online checkin 48 hours before the flight, and maybe I can change seats then, but I expect that the best seats will be gone by then.
Is online check in available 48 hours ahead for such flights?
Will I be able to change seats then?
Is there any other way to get an early seat change?
Any other advice always welcome too :)

    Why don't you call Singapore Airlines? They should be able to help.
    For your information, the "best" seats can only be reserved by PPS members, until 96 hours before departure where it's a free for all. So, don't wait until online check-in opens 48h before.

    Yes definitely call. I was in a similar situation and the call centre was able to arrange the seats I was after (mini cabin on the 777-300er). Email confirmation came through almost instantly.

        Yes, they are happy to help! My reward flight was booked through Virgin as well -around 11 months out. I originally called Virgin to confirm seats, they told me to call Singapore Airlines and I did. Everything was sorted quickly. They even offered to arrange my 'book the cook' meals - but this is easily done online. Have a great trip! Business class on Singapore Airlines is fantastic.

    Hey, I booked a SQ Business reward seat through VA points, and was able to manage my seats instantly.

    What you need from your VA itinerary is the SQ equivalent PNR code to use on their website.

    At the top, under the names of the passengers, there should be two lines:
    - RESERVATION CODE: XXXXXX - this is the VA code
    - AIRLINE RESERVATION CODE: XXXXXX (SQ) - this is the SQ code you can use to manage your booking through the SQ website and app.

      For anyone else with the same problem, on my Virgin Eticket the (Singapore Airlines) AIRLINE RESERVATION CODE was located in the 'TICKET INFO' column.
