FISHERMEN! Recommendations for Fishing Equipment Deals at BCF?

Stoked! Got $100 BCF gift voucher as a b'day gift.

Now how to use it wisely…

I'm looking for fishing equipment (spinning/baitcaster reel, rod… maybe more braid line, weights, hooks, lures if BCF is cheaper to buy from compared to online stores).

I think reels/rods I can get cheaper from other online stores, but does BCF do big sales for them or only 20% every now and then?

Thinking of getting a quality all rounder shimano rod/reel (or any recommendations).

Where to get line, weights and hooks cheap? Is BCF best option?

I mostly just do jetty/shore fishing and have about 8 rods (broken tips) and old crappy reels so looking for a quality one. I like going for bigger fish (tailor, jewfish, threadfin salmon, snapper) but also (flathead, bream).

Any recommendations for how I can use it to get more bang out of my bucks?

get a rod tip repair kit which will allow you to repurpose those rods easily.

I would say spend the money on a cast net first if you are not based in NSW(thats the best way to get live bait if you are chasing bigger fish, nothing beats live bait lol).

Otherwise u can get a shimano sienna or sedona 4000 and pair it with one of the older rods you have.

Most of BCF stuff is usually way overpriced. However occasionally they will give you a free $10 voucher to spend if you become a VIP member and opt for emails.

If you want new stuff rather then repair your old rods, sign up to their membership and await the regular newsletters advising of sales. They seem to have their Shimano gear at 20% off more often than not. Pair that with the (less regular) free $10 vouchers as mentioned above and you're getting somewhere. They can indeed be overpriced but I got a Stradic reel and Jewel light spin rod for very good prices.

    • Been a member and claimed more than $40 to date in vouchers :) thanx for info itll be good for others.

  • I have a Garage full of fishing gear, everything from 2kg to 30kg game outfits

As an all rounder, i love the Shimano Ci4 4000 over a 2-5Kg rod
(caught 3ft Sharks in 60meters of water, 5Kg Snapper and also used it on GarFish and KGW)

Another awesome value for money outfit is a FinOre Lethal 4000 reel on a 3-7kg rod
The FinOre is heavier, but indestructible and have 20Kg of drag

Important Note: BCF is rip off, BUT, they will price match anything you find.
I have done well doing this and been able to get my reel there and then instead of waiting on freight.

Just show them the online price, they then look it up, Price Match no questions asked.

  • If you keep breaking tips, maybe get a glass/composite rod (ugly stick etc). Not going to be as light or cast as far as full carbon/graphite but much less likely to break.

    • Any recommendations on the ugly stik? I had a look yesterday like its thin and lightweight featurue

  • Aliexpress and learn some Chinese fishing brands like kastking. They do quality gear that is equal to name brands in competition but at 1/3 or less the price!

Or order direct from their site for the latest fishing kit releases. As aliexpress gets the end of line discounted gear. Watch some YouTube reviews & learn what makes a better rod’reel. Oh they sell fishing line too cheap, braided, mono ect

Combos on Amazon can be awesome value too but keep an eye out for 50% BCF sales & EOL runout deals. Also brand snobbery is how they stay in business
