Help Me Decide on a New Fridge

I am in the market for a new fridge to replace Fisher and Paykel that served well for good 2 decades. I have readi this and Whirlpool Forums and reviews suggest that LGs and Samsung’s should be avoided. There is a lot of support for Mitsubishi brand. Mix reviews are on other brands such as Westinghouse, Fisher and Paykel is making buying decision a bit confusing. Ozbargainers please help me decide which way to go as I haven’t been active in this area for some. Budget is around 3-3.5k?

  • Sheeez! $3000 on a fridge?
I bought a new fridge about 6 weeks ago and went LG bottom mount. $950. 460 litre (roughly), delivered, installed & old one removed.

You gotta work out whether you want a bottom mount, side by side, top mount, how big, does it fit in my kitchen, ice dispenser (and do you have plumbing there where the fridge goes so it tops up the water), too many variables.

I jumped onto productreview dot com dot au and looked through Choice. No issues so far with the LG.

But for that kind of cash, your looking at Rolls Royces so anything you buy is bound to be good. I've heard F&P are good but way out of my price range - well within yours.

  • Thanks - useful tips

    • also remember to have a gap of 2cm for height and both ends of width to let the head circulate.

  • about 5 months ago I bought the Electolux EBE5307SA-R. 530L, bottom mount freezer (can't go side by side because of configuration of kitchen). Bought from Good Guys for less than $1450 (+ Electrolux cashback)

Excellent fridge so far, plenty of space and recently had to warranty claim something (one of the door shelves broke) and received it 48hours after i called them

  • I'm actually eyeing this Fridge - LG GF-6D725BGL 725L French Door Fridge.

I initially wanted one with a water dispenser but can't be bothered to get someone to do plumbing (there is an existing tap but it needs to go through a wall - no idea why my builder made it like this. Hence this model will fit my needs.

So far I've found AO having the best price. They quoted me $3090 as the best price. Wondering if we could group up and demand more. But then again still shopping for the best price.

  • Hi Ferret - my refrigeration mechanic friend has suggested not to go for LG in particular. So I am kind of biased against LG.

    • What was the reasons? Interested to know as I haven't bought it yet.. Just reading the reviews for now.

And was there a particular brand the mechanic suggested?

  • He mentioned he bought LG 2 years ago and it has been twice that he had to call on its warranty. Sorry I didn't ask which model in particular. Though I realise we all get apprehensive on hearing these sorts of things - especially when we are relying on other people's experiences.

  • We have this Mitsubishi Electric multi drawer

Would have gone for the bigger model but they did not fit in the kitchen dedicated space. The fridge seems very solid.

    • What actual height I should work around before I buy one (thinking about 574 lites model – http://www.mitsubishielectric.com.au/mr-ex574x-multi-drawer-…)

Though I have provision for the prescribed height of 1696 + 25 for clearance on top – but I read that adjustable Support Cover is to be installed underneath as part of installation. What I am not sure is that will this add to the height?

      • That cover thing just snaps over the adjustment part to cover it up neatly. Does not add to the height.

  • Mitsubishi for sure. We absolutely love ours.

  • Has anyone bought from The Electric Discounter as their price on the 574 L model are the best - https://www.theelectricdiscounter.com.au/Refrigerator/MREX57…

    • No. But you can try price matching elsewhere. When we got it, it was on sale at 2nds World but a long wait for delivery . Got Bing Lee to price match over the phone and deliver the next day.

  • Thanks
