FYI: 2018 costs/fees for secondary state school in NSW

I had a hard time finding this because you got variations from say Vaucluse to say… some school past Penrith or so.

So here's some costs from a school on the north shore.

$900 yearly voluntary contributions
$250 camp costs
$450 uniform costs (inc. sports uniform)
$150 random tech. grounds pool fees etc..

here's where I made out like a bandit:

$300 dell inspiron 11 3000 4/120gb mandatory device

above is roughly rounded….

$2,050!

This school is well rated so people will happily pay this and more.

At least its not the typical $1k per semester of a catholic school… this is probably half that which I think is super rip off but having kids isnt a bargain is it?

Comments

  • but having kids isnt a bargain is it?

Maybe you could list them in the classifieds?

  • Looks about right, hasn't change much since my time in government schools

  • Not sure what the issue is here?

  • $900 yearly voluntary contributions…..so you don't need to pay them, right? My parents never did.

    • +1

You don't have to pay them if you want to be a jerk… If you have the means to pay you certainly should pay

    • at best you can ask to pay it quarterly but everyone in this suburb can afford it

  • Yeah education is such a rip off! ._.

  • With the kids at a school out past Penrith…

$900 is many times our voluntary contribution of $80. That would raise $1million at our school (in theory, I doubt 10% of families would pay it).
Uniform is more like $200 and they don't police it too heavily, so you can wear any sort of jacket or coat, for example.
The only items not available at bigw/target is the shirt and sports shirt at $38ea.
    Other costs are similar.

    • Yeah I feel like my parents were paying $80 a year for me to go through the public system.

  • +1

and when the kids are 15 they can leave and get a job. bargain.

  • I see a saving of $900 already.
