    So Spend $99 ($69 + $30 Recharge) and get $50 giftcard.

Are you sure it has a fingerprint scanner?

    • +1

      It doesn’t. It’s a misprint.

  • I think only the X Smart has finger print scanner ? Not X Spirit.

  • +3

I do enjoy that the ad lists 'fingerprint scan' as the only feature…

    • Only feature that doesn't even exist.

  • Optus doesn't have any 365 day recharges available in their pre-paid do they? My cheapie second / backup phone is on last legs and my 1 year (think it was $20) recharge with voda nearing end. This would be a decent deal if so, but i can only see a 28 day $30 one.

    • Unless you specifically want to be on optus for their perks, you can get a $10 amaysim As You Go that lasts 365 days, just don't think of using their rip-off casual data at 15.4¢/MB. No need to unlock since they're on Optus

Edit: However since you'll have to do a $30 recharge to take advantage of the included gift card, you might as well pick long life option for 186 day expiry. That's what I did when i bought it when it was $49.50

      • I don't particularly care who it is with, but the idea of a decent enough phone that mainly sits in a drawer connected to home wifi and pretty much receiving calls only from anywhere I don't really want to know my main number + 1yr recharge for around $50 was appealing. At $80 after gift card.. well i can probably do better with something like the amaysim you suggested and getting a cheapo phone on its own.

  • The X-smart might be worth considering, but the X-spirit is pretty poor… have a look at the screen … 480x854.

    • "480x854"

whoa.. do they still make these screens today?

    • It all depends on the intended purpose.
Screen is fine indoors. 1GB imposes certain limits.

      Was $49. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/347114

      • Absolutely, at the net cost of $20, it already paid for itself from the freebies such as HJ shake'n'win or the 7-eleven apps etc. etc.

        • You forgot to add cost of a $30 recharge to activate the included EFTPOS card.

        • @isdnman: ok here's my breakdown:
          I paid $49.50 last year/month
          So $49.50 - $50 +$30 =$29. 50
However i don't value the $30 recharge as nothing i value it at $10 as it's often discounted to $10 in the form of starter kits because i still get some use out of it so
          $29.50 - $10 = $19.50
          Sorry for the confusion

        • @bonz:
You can't use a $30 face value starter kit to activate the included EFTPOS card.
          Must be a recharge voucher.
Unless you can buy a $30 recharge voucher for $10…

        • @isdnman:

Nah, bonz is saying he values the $30 initial recharge at $10. His maths is good.

So for above, pay $69+$30, get phone plus $50 eftpos, plus starter pack worth $10 or so.

Unless you can buy a $30 recharge voucher for $10…

That is a typical discount price for a starter pack, ie recharge tied to a particular new SIM.

        • @manic:
Thanks for steering isdnman in the right direction manic, to make this clearer my kid had used up the $10 credit on the Vodafone 365 plus plan in just around 6 months, i was going to throw another $10 in or port to amaysim $10 AYG, or get an optus $30 starter kit for the $10, so why not take this opportunity to make use of the eftpos gc offer

    Oh the 'X' saga…

  • Hey guys… what if we activate the new sim and recharge it with $30 all in sim + recharge kit..

it says 'From the 4th of October 2017 to the 4th February 2018, new customers will receive a $50 EFTPOS gift card when they purchase any of the below handsets online or in-store, active the included SIM and on their first recharge and recharge with $30 or more.'

So technically we are activating including sim and recharging with starter kit with a sim swap.. has anyone tried it

    • won't work according to their T&Cs, they're already one step ahead of you

Excludes handset upgrades, SIM swaps and Postpaid to Prepaid
