Buyii.com.au - new daily deals and group buying tracker

Buyii.com.au - Daily deals and group buying tracker

Hi ozBargainites! This week my mate and I have rolled out a new Australian Daily Deals and group buying tracker call Buyii. The concept is simple, we list all the daily deals from group buying sites on a single page.

We're currently in Beta stages but would like to invite Ozbargainers to use the site and provide us with any feedback. We'll be constantly reviewing and adding new features to the site.

The things that make us stand out from the other trackers/aggregators are

Single page listings
All the deals on one page. Minimizing excessive clicks and simpler way to browse. Another advantage is that we list the various side deals that others may miss.

Personalised Account settings
Register an account, Select what City and Categories you like and get personalised deals displayed. Every time you get back into the site while logged in, you get taken straight away to your Cities deal page.

Shortened Deal titles and Descriptions
We make a short summary of the deal, plus short description so you get quick overview of the deal without the sales pitch some sites write up.

Facebook/Twitter Share
Share the deals you like to your Facebook and Twitter accounts

Daily newsletter
Currently being developed. Once running, all subscribers will get a single daily email with all the deals in your preferred city. Say goodbye to a cluttered inbox

Working on a few other features such as the RSS feed (just for you Neil :p), Twitter feeds, our Blog, our Buyii Awards (monthly award for the highest selling deals) and some other fun stuff.

So, feel free to take a look around and provide us any feedback!

Cheers,
Zhenjie - http://www.buyii.com.au

p.s: I'm sure people will be curious "Why the name". Well, its short and simple to remember :).

  • good site mate. just checking - are all the sites tested? legit? maybe i am in the wilderness but never heard of jigocity for example

    • Thanks!

Jigocity is one of the new players to Australia. They seem to have a presence in Asia though and a few issues with their site earlier on (namely no SSL security for their payments). Theres a thread discussing them here (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/35874) and their rep seems to be around. The DJ deal is certainly one of the best I've seen so far. Discount on gift vouchers is not common!

  • Nice looking, good start.

Do Nationwide deals also appear in Sydney for example? Would be a pity to miss a deal because it's Nationwide.

    • Nationwide deals will be rolling out soon. They'll mainly be from the mainstream daily deal sites like COTD, Zazz, etc. Do you think we should put them at the bottom of the city deals in their own area?

      • No, what I mean is if I click on Sydney, will I also see Nationwide deals there, or do I have to look at Nationwide separately. I think it should be the former.

        • At the moment we've decided to separate them, as the nationawide deals are generally tangible items/goods vs the group buying deals which are more dining, health, etc. We'll definitely put a vote out to see if the nationwide deals should be published with the city deals.

What do others think? Should we mix COTD, Zazz type deals with the city ones?

        • Will it always be the case that nationwide deals are different in nature to city only deals? Or could you be confusing two classifications that may be difficult to undo later?

      • How bout making it a checked box like the types of deals? Say if someone travels between Sydney and Melbourne, have both checked. Or likewise, Melbourne & Nationwide.

Is there a lot of manual updating on your end when listing these new deals?

  • Nice job zhennjie. Countdowns look good. Look forward to the rss ;)

Is it Buy E (like Wii) or Buy I I (like iinet)?

    • Thanks Neil. You noticed the other thing that sets us apart, the countdown timer!

Name is pronouced Buy-E (like Wii)

  • +3

+1 for not pretending you "discovered" the site while surfing the net like others I could name, but won't because I can't be bothered looking them up just to give them more publicity! :)

    • Sockpuppets get pwned here!

  • +1

I like the timer on the side :) Look forward 2 using it!

  • Hi,

There's a typo in your title - the hyperlink takes you to buyii.com.ai.

Looks good… only thing I wonder about is side deals - will you be listing those too? Like I can see you have a number of deals on there for Spreets for Sydney, but Scoopon also has side deals… my problem with all the deal summary sites so far is that they don't have the side deals! So hopefully you can find a way to work it in? :)

    Otherwise looks good!

    • thanks for the typo find.

Sidedeals will be added to the listings, as you can see we already have the Spreets & JumpOnIt ones. We'll hopefully work on the Scoopon ones but they haven't been able to provide us a feed like Spreets has, which is very disappointing.

  • can't access from work comes up as blog. is there a way to change how the site is seen. (if that makes sense)

    • Hi huntress, sorry but not really sure what you mean?

  • Just added Yellow Pages Offers, Vowcha and Buy2Gether to the list of sites we track. So many players in Melbourne now! I think we had around 20 live deals on Saturday just for Melbourne alone.

How are people finding the shortened deal titles + descriptions? Is it enough information for everyone? Would like to hear your feedback on that one.

  • Nice site! Wish I could sign up but the registration page causes my iPhone all kinds of crazy.

Is there any chance of picking up the actual city of the company offering the deal? I'm sick of finding great offers in 'melbourne' only to find them actually out in the burbs somewhere.

    • I'll look into the registration page on iPhone/mobiles soon.

Unfortunately there is no real specific Geo targeting of just 'Melbourne metro' deals.

  • Great site mate!

One thing i'll like to see is perhaps a quick view at the top of the home page showing the deals ending in the next hour or two, or deals that have reached a certain number of buyers (ie: 1000,2000,3000). Just something to highlight deals ending soon or ones that have achieved a massive number of buyers.

    Keep up the great work!

    • Hi Bennie, the deals are sorted from ending soonest to ending latest. So the deals under featured deals will show the ones ending really soon.

Re the number of deals purchased. We'd love to do that but unfortunately hard to update qty sold as not all the sites are giving us that info :(. I personally would love to see this feature also (number sold), we'll see what we can do!

  • very cool. nice programming :)

  • Very nice site. Well done.

Just out of interest, do you receive any benefit from the site or is it purely providing a free service?

    • Thanks Domingo. We do have referral/affiliate links for just a handful of site in order to help fund this project. Most are just credit to spend on the sites rather then cash. Myself and 2 others volunteer our time to update the site currently but hope advertising may help us hire someone.

      • Ah cool. I'll make sure I purchase through your portal to support it then!

  • I wonder who bought the scooter. I wouldn't mind having that kind of money to spend elsewhere. lol!

  • Very nice website, love the timer :)

  • Great site - I love the simplicity and the timer. Is it easy to add in "how many people have bought the deal so far?" I think it helps when quickly looking through the offers, whilst some offers are excellent value, others are not so good and it helps by seeing how many people have been bought as to whether you would click on the deal and seek further information. I love the site and will be sure to use it from now on instead of looking at a myriad of sites each day - thanks :-)

    • Is it easy to add in “how many people have bought the deal so far?”

It's easy, but requires the group buying sites to work with us and give us that info in real time. But unfortunately most of them don't want to provide it so we decided not to implement it :(

  • Is there any chance of having a ranking system. I don't want to wade through a large number of offers, so if the best deals were obvious due to a ranking (shouldn't be too hard implementing a voting system) it would be nice.

    site looks nice though

    • Yeah we could implement something like this in the future, sort of like an Ozbargain voting system?

The thing is, deals like these are so personal. You may end up seeing all the health and beauty deals get ranked highly as most of our (and group buying) visitors are the female demographic.

  • Hi again! been using your site for the last few days…. love it :) Do you think it's worthwhile putting a location of the deal somewhere in the summary section… I live in Brisbane and some of the QLD deals posted are located the in Gold Coast which for me is too far away to drive just for the deal. I would imagine that would be applicable in other states where the the city covers a huge geographical area and some people may find it handy to see straight away where the deal is located as to whether it's worth clicking into for more info. thanks

    • thanks for the feedback. My team and I will start adding the location for the QLD deals in the description area. Should start seeing it over the next few days.

  • Hey Zhenjie,

Just discovered your site, pretty awesome! Didn't realise just how many deal a day sites there were!

Like balance157, the suburb location of each deal is something I would find handy as well, will you be implementing for other states?

    • Hi RandomNinja,

Next update, will see many updates and changes, including the inclusion of the Business Name/Address below the Deal Title. might even make it google Maps compatible!

Gold Coast, Hobart and other major cities will be added in the next update. Not many deals yet for them but I'm sure they will get more as the big and small players tap these smaller markets.

  • Absolutely Brilliant, got it book marked and "like" of FB. Love it, thanks. Shame we can't vote on it.
