Housesitting without Pets

Hi everyone!

I want to give House-sitting a go however I have a small fear of animals and I don't think I can look after someone's pet whilst house sitting :( Looking after someones family member is a serious job and I just dont think I can do it.

Do the majority of clients on these website require you to just look after their homes or most with a pet?

Would really appreciate any feedback on this from current house sitters and clients.

I would be the perfect candidate in looking after someones home……but I'm not a fan of the pet duties!

P.S Anyone in Melbourne looking for a house sitter without pets? LOL

thanks for reading

  • I joined up to Aussie House sitters almost a year ago. Success rate = 0 despite having experience looking after houses with pets for up to a month.

What you will find is you will be interested in a place, and the owner always has the same excuse, thank you but i JUST secured someone.. Gave up after that.

Some guy asked me to look after his country house for a month, but a bit too far for me. I only look at places with 3 weeks not interested in 2/3 days ect.

    • Thanks Brentl 32 appreciate your feedback :)

why does your house need to be sat if you dont have pets?
lock the door, go on holiday

If I go away from my home I just leave it empty.

What's the point of house sitters? To look after the pets.

to water the garden, take in mail :)

      • Tap timer and you can place a hold on your mail… I get 2-3 letters a year.

Also what is your fear of pets exactly?

Water is rather expensive. I let the rain sort that out. Not watered the garden since before the last drought during which everything needing water was removed or left to die. Everything left is now drought resistant.

Mail hold at the post office? Ask the neighbours to kindly bring the mail in?

  • Interestingly, I am also looking into this and yes, I feel that 99% of people need a house sitter for their pets. I am not afraid of pets but I am not sure people would trust me with their pets since I don't have much experience with them. I have had dogs when I was a young kid but I am not sure this counts. Would you be comfortable to leave your pets with someone who loves animals but haven't had much experience with pets?

  • If there is a market for house sitting without pets I can't imagine what it is.

Mail can be held/redirected to elsewhere/PO Box.

There are a lot of solutions for the garden.

But the biggest thing at all, the owner in question would only be looking for you if they had no friends/family in the area.

Asking the friends/family to stop by and pick up your mail every 3 days is not a big deal.
