DSE/Kmart/Big W/Target etc return policies?

Hi all,
Looking to buy a Wii as a gift for Christmas, but not entirely sure that the recipient will want it (might receive it from someone else).

So, trying to buy it from somewhere with a decent return policy. Obviously, if it's to be returned, it won't be taken out of its packaging etc.

Have only really tried Kmart yet, they told me it's a 3week return - ie need to return it in 3 weeks, which means I would need to buy it the week before Christmas (don't want to have to line up on Boxing Day to return it!).

Anyone know about other similar stores?

I doubt you will find any store with more than a 30 day return policy on electronics like game consoles.

Have you considered lay-bying the console at K-mart? That way you could be sure the store would have one in stock for you the week before Christmas.

    • Lay-by rocks! +1 on that play! :)

  • It's generally 2 weeks. If they don't like it though, make sure they don't open it.

  • Target has a 28 day return policy. And I think after 28 days, you can only get a store credit. I'm assuming Kmart would be the same. Not too sure about DSE and Big W though.

    • Dick Smith is 2 weeks. Once shopped at the Lidcombe store and their girl made a huge fuss about it. She was like a shark, smelled like one too.

    other ideas.

    • wait until closer to xmas
    • write an iou for one wii
    • talk to family and ask if he/she would enjoy wii
    • keep wii for yourself.

on a side note, i wish i had friends that would buy me a wii for christmas :(

  • Thanks for the responses, appreciated :)

Layby is a good idea, but I'm trying to minimise the amount of time spent in shopping centres, no fun at this time of year! Thinking I'll leave it till a couple of days before Christmas, then head to kmart - they're open 24 hours at the closest shopping centre, so shouldn't be too busy later at night. Hopefully they'll still have stock (I remember getting my wii a couple of years back, they were so popular that I had to wait till mid Jan!)
