Xiaomi Gateway Connection Error

Hi All, please help!

I tried searching previous post and google but no luck so trying here as last resort :( recently I have purchased 5 in 1 Home kit.

However when trying to add gateway to mi home app it’s giving me a connection error where there’s yellow light flashing 3 times and pause then repeat.

I tried plugging gateway right next to the wifi router and is still giving me an error saying unstable connection.

Q: did I receive a faulty unit or is any gateway version blocked in au ip addresses?

I also purchased aquara 180 degree cam which has a built in gateway function which was added to mi home app fine (I tried connecting gateway first).

Is there a way of making this gateway useful as well
Any help is appreciated ;(

Wifi network name cannot contain soecial characters.

    • I see my wifi connection name is KL just two letters - can it be because it’s too short?

Try another phone and make sure location mainland China. Also its 2.4,GHz only.

    • I forgot to mention that I have an IPhone 6plus with updated iOS. Mi home app from the App Store was named in Chinese character I couldn’t find an English name one but interface looked exactly same (does it matter?)

I did choose mainland China and router is Belkin 300 N which uses 2.4GHz thanks for confirmation

I had the same issue (and the only one I faced with any of my Xiaomi purchases) a while ago but it apparently wasn't a problem with the device but my wifi router. Restarting my router fixed it.

    • I unplugged power for the router for 3 sec and replugged still no success :( I’ll try pressing reset button and see how I go thanks!

      • Did you ever figure this out? I am having the exact same issue and just cant do it.

  • Hopefully I can help some who still manages to land on this.

Had issue with mine and decided to change from router wifi to mesh wifi.

Headache started happening as the gateway won't connect. Had issues with the app sending message to gateway for it to connect and so forth.

Gateway never flashed a blue light, only yellow.

The way I fixed it and might be bad news to some is to use an old version of the Mi Home app. Luckily I still had an old phone which I use an alerting tool that's always connected to the wifi and gateway, but never updated.

If you still can't connect to your gateway, use different phones, different app version, different OS (ie. Iphone or Android) and hopefully you'll get it connected back again.

    Good Luck
