Laptop under $500.00 for Parents

G'day everyone.
Parents are retired and travel around a fair bit and want a small laptop to take when travelling.
They asked that it be…
Light as they have other carry on luggage including camera gear.
They will use it to check email and browse relevant web sites to where they travel too, but want something that they can move photos and videos to and from, as well as store them on while travelling.
I don't think they'd use it to edit them at all.

Any suggestions on current offers would be much appreciated.
Thanks everyone.

Does it have to be a laptop running Windows? Could it be a Chromebook or a tablet running Chrome OS (those are coming out pretty soon)

Does it have to be a laptop? Tablets are much more compact and if you can get one with USB (if needed for transfer of photos etc) it might be a better solution.
For photo storage consider a cloud-based solution until they return home and can download.

    • that laptop weights 2.2KG and charger weights 168g

Battery life is also 'abysmal' according to Notebookcheck and due to cell aging the battery life would also be even worse by now.

I wouldn't recommend that for travelling.

      • i saw "laptop wanted". and went for the latest cheapest deal.

        totally didn't read the rest.

        tablet, as you recommend toothcarving.

        • all good, mr sub-atomic particles.
