Business Logo Designs - Best Options

Hi OzB's,

I'm in the need of a Logo for a business I'm about to launch. Currently considering my options and I feel as though most have Pro's & Con's.

Looking for peoples personal experiences on what they did and how the outcome turned out.

Looking at either a freelancer from something like Feverr
A Design Competition like DesignCrowd/99 Designers
Approaching a specific local design business to complete the work.

Weighing up cost vs creativity vs quality.

I'm reluctant to tie myself to any one specific designer as I dont have a specific vision for what I want & I dont want to be limited on their single creativity, having said that I have heard the quality from design comps is hit and miss?

Thanks in Advance and keen to hear peoples experiences.

Hire a young local graphic designer. They will provide you with a much better standard of work than anything those awful sites like Fiverr could ever offer. Not to mention you'll be giving an up-and-comer some valuable experience and will actually be helping someone advance their fledgling career, than supporting those who would gladly greatly undervalue their services.

    Source: am a graphic designer.

    • Good insight and I am a fan of supporting new starters. Do you have any recommendations on the best way to source said designer? Obviously I want to vet their previous work etc prior to hiring them.

That's actually a good question and not one I really have the answer for I'm sorry. I did a quick check online and found the following site which lists quite a few: https://www.theloop.com.au/creatives/Graphic-Designer

Otherwise an ad in Gumtree (free) or your local paper might yield results? Also check on Facebook to see if there are any suitable groups that might have listings?

        Good luck!

Consider approaching a tafe for current student or recent graduate recommendations. The Design centre at enmore (NSW) has some very good students and I'm sure the staff would be accommodating in passing on your interest

I've used AirTasker (AT) and was very pleased with the work done. Find a professional who's just starting out in AT and doing it for an absolute bargain but has the portfolio/chops to back up their work.

Had awesome success with fiverr last year for a logo. I had some colour ideas and ended up with something perfect.

Having said that, I've worked for web and design studios for most of my life and they can produce cracking work - expensive, generally single vision, however very good work :)

Will you need to organise webdesign / business cards / stationery too? Would be good to have a single designer for that :)

Good luck with the new business!

  • I have had some success in the past with ebay. quite pleased with the service and experience - I ended up working with a designer in the UK.

  • Use 99 Designers to crowdsource your project and invite the Tafe students. Open the opportunity to up and comers while getting enough spread for your project.

  • Thanks all, some great ideas.

Keen to hear from anyone that has used the contest websites and their experiences.
