Officeworks Mailman - So Many Issues!

With the latest price rise on <500g parcels at Australia Post, I have been using Officeworks Mailman to send eBay parcels (I'm the seller). However, out of 23 parcels sent in the last 3 months, 11 have had issues. Two lost completely with long-ongoing queries, two sent mistakenly back to my / senders address (used their satchel so senders address is on the back, clearly labelled and a lot smaller than front "send to" address) and seven parcels arrived very late, more than 5 days past the maximum estimated delivery times (which for Officeworks Mailman is already quite liberal to cover themselves).

If I call Officeworks they just tell me to open an online query, which states on their website they will respond to within 2 business days yet that has only been achieved once. Average of 4 business days and the worst two were 12 and 13. And it's always generic advice, no support.

As an eBay seller, I post the items within 24 hours of receiving payment and upload the tracking numbers straight away, yet I have had seven cases of neutral and negative feedback from these incidents.

I will probably go back to Aus Post, although I have had similar issues the incidence has been a lot less. Doesn't seem worth it to save myself / buyers a small amount of money. I wanted to know has anyone else had such issues with Officeworks Mailman?

I've stuck with Auspost Ebay labels and while it is more expensive by a few $, the hassle-free (100%) has been great. The main issue I have see is they don't scan about 30% of the time when I hand it over so the seller gets impatient and then suddenly it is at their door.

my main gripe is ticking the box for "if you need to obtain a signature on delivery please tick the box" ….. and they just dump and run.
i find there time frames will very depending who the contractor is at the other end (a subsidiary contractor, not primary)….its not great.
also some of there drop off machines could do with an upgrade (probably more internet than anything) ….. sometimes it take 5-10 minutes to deposit and item.

    • Yes, delivery time does vary a lot. I wouldn't use it with anything regional or out too far from major cities as those have been the worst for me ( even longer than their "up to 18 days" estimate sometimes!).

Never had an issue with mailman, gets there much faster than AP and so much easier to do, not sure why you’re getting so many issues..

    • The first month had no issues with it. And as you say it is much easier, and more convenient for me. Definitely haven't found it quicker than Aus Post though.
Starting before Christmas the issues just started stacking up, not sure why. Frustrating. I use two different Officeworks stores to deposit the parcels so it's not store specific.

Last time I checked Mailman was using Fastways. Drivers are usually their own franchise and there are a good number of shocking ones out there. My local depot is very incompetent and slow.

    • Fastway!.. That explains the issues.

So many issues and yet you continue to use them?

Whatever you do, stay away from Fastway. I used to use them but they are dodgy at worst, incompetent at best.

  • I'm surprised you're having so many issues. I've sent over 30 packages via Mailman so far and I've had no issues. A couple over mid to late December took quite longer but that's expected with the holiday period. My only concern is that with some regional areas, they use freight on-forwarders to complete the delivery, so delivery confirmation is never provided. A small concern when it comes to Paypal but you can always use Auspost for these areas instead.

This year so far they've been very quick from Brisbane to Sydney and Melbourne. 1-2 days to Sydney, 2-3 days to Melbourne. I've bought a few things from Sydney and Melbourne which were delivered by Auspost and it's taken twice that time to arrive.
