eBay charge Fees even my item is not sold

I was trying to sell my camera on eBay when i received a promotional offer which has no final, insert and list fees. I listed my camera, someone ask if they can see the camera and i reply with my phone number, he didn't call and i didn't sell the camera. couple days later i stop the ad as i was going away for holiday, and 2 days ago i received an invoice for 300ish dollar. I called eBay and tehy said i breach the policy by giving out contact detail, so fees will applied regardless i sold the item or not.
And here is the interesting part. as i explain to her i didn't sell the camera and she asked me if i still have the camera, i said yes, she told me i can relist my camera and if the camera get sold and i don't have to pay any fees on both item as i was still in promotional period , but it has to be before 8 of feb. the next day, i sold my camera in very low price and requested cash on pick up to avoiding the paypal fees, but still better than paying 300ish to ebay + paypal fees. after the item got sold, and i called them to settle the case, the agent told me there is miscommunication and fees will applied, i told her that is not what your agent told me yesterday, and she said there is a miscommunication, (i know what i heard and i did confirmed with the first agent twice about the fees), but she only gave me the answer that the first agent was giving a correct information and there is a miscommunication about the fees. I ask if i can have the recording of our conversation and she said that is private property and they will not share with me.

opinions and suggestions are welcome

p.s sorry for my poor english

  • sounds dodgy that you avoided paypal payment for the purchase.

ebay thinks that you faked the transaction - get a friend/relative to "buy" it off you.

Wow, I never knew they would do that. I mean, it's not unreasonable for someone to come inspect the item prior purchasing. I get what eBay is doing, trying to force people to pay through the platform, but still. Scum move.

eBay are bloody disgraceful for that. I was selling a fridge, only 6 months old Mitsubishi fridge/freezer in mint condition. Buyer asked to inspect it, completely reasonable, I tried to send my phone number, and eBay blocked my account for 10 days.

I called eBay asking how people are to be expected to sell/buy expensive items if you cannot inspect them, eBay's answer was that's the rules, you can't.

      • I've sold kinda large things on ebay before (a heater) and organised meet up via ebay messages. I didn't post my phone number, just the pick up address. I cancelled the the transaction on ebay with buyers agreement too, never got a ban.

My guess is that eBay has a system which detects phone numbers and email addresses. So…don't write personal contact info.

unlink your ebay user id and your paypal account asap. this will stop ebay from charging your pp account automatically.

then log in to pp and remove your cc and bank ac.

    • but then what happen if i don't pay the fees?

but then what happen if i don't pay the fees?

not much. ebay will probably ban the user id, and stop you from opening a new user id with the same personal information.

  • I’ve had this before but they send out a warning email first. If you do it again they can place restrictions & penalties. Have you received previous warnings?

    • i have not received previous warnings, this is the first time. They send me an email after i try to giving out my phone number to the seller, i thought that was just the warning, only found out 2 days ago they actually charge me on this.

  • Honestly, those pickup order - they heard about the item from? eBay?

  • I feel for you . This is ridiculous on eBay’s part . Ask to speak with a manager ? I also received a warning from eBay trying to Contact a seller on eBay as I missed out on their auction and the item was Unsold.

    • i did, they said there is a miscommunication. when i ask them "can you confirm if the agent were gave me the information" and they said "We can't specify or disclose the phone transcript of your conversation because that's against the privacy of eBay".

  • u dont have to pay the selling fee
just ignore it, open a new ebay a/c with different ip address

    • thats the things i don't understand, i have unlink all my paypal detail but they still able to charge my credit card. i have provided my credit card detail when i open my ebay account but i have disconnect it already, i don't know how is that happen

      • Can you cancel the CC?

FT will be your last resort. Did the term & condition say if you give out your number then you need to pay all fee?

        • i thought i don't have anything connect to ebay(at least i do not see anything in my ebay account), i only realise it when ebay charge my credit card

        • @lisum33:

          Document everything.

Live chat ebay again and said if this can not be resolve you we have avenue except going to fair trading.

You better check the term and condition before you take it up with FT.

        • @lisum33:

You can dispute the charge as unauthorized direct debit
