Cheap CTP in NSW

hi all,

My car (a Toyota 2002 Camry Altise 3.0l) rego is due for a renewal in couple of days so I am looking for a green slip. My CTP has been with Allianz last couple of years and the CTP seems to increase with each renewal. So I am thinking of switching it to someone else. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi recently had the same experience with my nissan navara 2008. CTP jumped from $580 to $890 this year. I am or was was AAMI. Even shopped around but got all the same prices. Then headed to onepath with does CTP through QBE. Guess what got it for $516. Am suprised.

Assuming your in NSW - which is most likely from the prices you quoted LOL

Just go the the RTA greenslips site to get comparison rates

But given the comment above by Rack, maybe there are others as well, but this gives you a starting point

    • AAMI? I like their tv commercial but not their insurance cover, let's just say I have bad experience with them.

  • just getting CTP?

  • Thanks rack and ozpete. I will check the suggested websites out.

Davo, maybe a CTP + third party as well if it helps reduce the cost.

    Thanks,

I would heartily recommend TPPD insurance as a bare minimum…without it, you hit an expensive car with no cover & you're stuffed! None of us plans to have a accident, but a split second lapse of concentration or a sneeze in traffic, you rear-end a Merc or Beemer…well, you know where this is heading! ;)

      • Cheers mate. My current TPPD runs to end of January ;)

worth doing the sums with TPPD being relatively cheap you may save more by combining now, than the loss of the 1 months premium. Crazy but sometimes true

i wouldn't recommend this site. When i did a comparison all the companies were giving me prices around the $600 mark which was still fine. But then when i called the companies the prices increased. I asked them why as the prices on maa.nsw is cheaper. I was given the response becuase not all the questions are on that website. So nopes from me.

I got the exact prices from this site, when I got the quote from individual companies.
Companies are ripping the customers, who dont have time to look at other companies and prices are hiked so much. my renewal came for 690 dollars, whereas, I ended up paying 550.

    • Same experience as gagans, exactly the same prices to the cent!

    • Rack - help us here - what questions were different? Would like to know for future reference.

  • I think the question was more specific to what type of car and the gvm. Also relating to business use. I think it affects cars which are used for business use such as mine and for the kind of business use. I was also told because the youngest driver is less then 30. Previously it was less then 25 years but now changed it to 30. I'd just say it's better to shop around.

    • ok that helps - thanks

BTW when those 26 year olds get to 30 the age minimum will be 35

  • i so agree. I was so pissed of. I was looking forward to my 25th birthday only to find out i have to be 30 now. When i reach 30 it will be 35.

  • Thanks guys. Based on the MAA site, i should be able to get the CTP with NRMA for $500 while the renewal notice from Allianz quotes $690. I will give NRMA a call tonight.

Also, i took the car to a mechanic today for a pink slip. Looks like couple of my tires are worn out. Where do you guys go to get your tyres changed these days? Any deals around? I live in Matraville in NSW so any suggested workshops around the eastern suburbs of Sydney would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    • I don't normally see great discounts on tyres, sometimes you can get $50 fuel card or cashback if you buy set of 4 tyres, rarely anything for 2. Go for house brand if you want to save some money upfront, but I really think name brand tyres produce better fuel economy due to lower rolling resistance and possibly longer lasting, so in longer term you would be better off with good quality tyres.

If you shop around, you may find some places are $10 to $15 cheaper per tyre. Just tell your local shop the same tyre is $10 cheaper elsewhere.

      Personally I like Michelin MX1+:

      http://www.michelin.com.au/tyre/patterndetail/PassengerCar/E…

The tyre price includes fit and balance, the shop may ask you to do wheel alignment which is recommended for 4 new tyres, not so sure about 2 and presumably both are going to the front. May be do some research before you go.

  • UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Just tried to pay for the quote i received from onepath but its an entirely different story. Apparantely there was some sort of a mistake. Initially they gave me quote with my business name as the cars registered owners whereas when i called today to pay it has jumped to $874 given that the car is registered in my name but for business use. Its a totally different story. I would assume it would be cheaper as its registered in my personal name but nope its the other way around.

    Current BP: 120

    • Is it just me or does there seem to be a huge amount of dodgy tricks with these ctp insurance companies?
seems very bait and switch imo

Shame on you Davo, using the terms 'dodgy tricks' and 'insurance companies' in the same sentence! :p

      • A personal vehicle for business use is a very different underwriting proposition than a business vehicle.

  • I ended up buying the policy with NRMA. A week back, i was quoted $483 online and then $494 on the phone. having forgotten the quote number, last night i did an online quote again and the price went up to $590 with NRMA while a CTP with QBE would be at $453. No idea why the NRMA quote went so much up!!!! anyway, this morning, i found the first online quote number on my note pad at work and bought it…it seems these insurance companies are not at all consistent.

I also ended up going to the nearest mechanics around the corners and changed my tires. Two Federal super steel S657 for $94 each..not sure if they were over priced. At least i got the car registration renewal done on the due date:D. It's getting more and more expensive to keep your car running these days.

    • You should make sure that the first quote covered your situation correctly as you may not be covered if you've made a mistake.

CTP is high regulated and prices can't just change on a whim so it highly unlikely that the same quote will return different prices.

      • All insurance can; and often does; change on a daily basis! You'll find that in the T&C's of the quote! That's why the insurers give you a quote number when you call or check online, to register the enquiry at the time & date of the quote to fix that price! ;)

        • This normally doesn't happen with CTP as it is regulated by the government. All changes in price need to be submitted to the MAA for approval and usually only occurs once a year.

  • for those in qld just change to allianz ctp get a $25 fuel card http://www.nationalseniors.com.au/page/Insurance/Queensland_…
